So do I. That's why I am going to change how I pay for my three large automatic recurring payments ... currently on my two Freedoms. Also, my Citi Driver's Edge will PC by Citi by March 1, 2011. So I can add Gas charges to Discover too.

* I will charge a little over $500. No need to charge more than that to get $75 Cashback Bonus.

* Have to watch what I charge between Discover More and Freedom.

Ok thanks. I can easily qualify. Already this year have I put just over $3,100 on my Discover.

I got this same letter from them but they're offering $500 cashback bonus if I spend 3,000 per month on the card for that time period, the most I've ever spent is probably 2,000 per month, and never did I spend that in back to back months.

I see a problem with this gimmick! This is just another way to get people deep into debt. Some cardmembers may probably end up spending more than their budget allow just to meet Discover's qualifying spending amounts for the credits. It's just not worth it to me.

No offense intended, but that is akin to saying a liquor store coupon is a “gimmick” to encourage alcoholism.

It’s about choice, and making the right decision for you.

This sort of offer is great if you choose to charge wisely – there are plenty of folks who can make the best of this offer simply by paying their regularly monthly bills and paying in full before the statement cuts (on all lines, of course – growing balances on other lines bearing interest will cut/eliminate any “savings” you get from this offer).

If folks choose to go “over budget” when they encounter offers of this kind, then the fault lies with them, not with the card issuer.

If some folks feel that this offer would tempt them into needless spending, then I agree that not accepting it is a wise choice – whatever works for you. But let’s be clear about who would really be the responsible party if this offer were misused.

I just did; no dice. The CSR wanted to give it to me - you know how Discover CSRs always are (which is great) - but he said if it the offer hasn't been preloaded into your account, there's nothing for them to activate and it's just not physically possible to add it manually. He offered to transfer me over to the regular CS department to see if they could get it added on from their end, but I just politely declined...past a certain point you feel guilty about wasting peoples' time over something you weren't necessarily targeted for in the first place.

Soooo .... they offered special cashback bonus to selected card holders? I guess Discover targeted me to spend more on their card because of my charges are anywhere between $5 ~ $100/mo it depend on the 5% categories. That's fine with me. Like I said, I just switch which card to charge ... it's not a big deal because it is still same monthly spending range and util.

Whoever received special bonus cashback offer ~ and accept it ~ just need to be smart enough to get that bonus cashback! To me ... it is really good deal.

I got the offer from them to earn $150.00 cash back if I spent $1000.00 a month for a total of $3000.00 between March and May. The offer promptly went into my shredder. Why would I put $1,000 a month on a card with a $1700.00 limit? And, they won't raise it because my signature VISA usually reports with a balance of $750.00, which I pay in full every month. I now use this card for a pack of gum every 3 months.

I want this offer!

I spend just over $1000/mo on my Discover. Although, it sounds to me like they are encouraging spending by offering everyone in certain spending brackets a cashback bonus for spending just over their spending bracket. I'm sure if they target me, they'll want me to spend $2k on it, but I'm not going to spend any extra.

Unless, of course, I happen to fullfil their requirements for 2 months, and say I'm $200 short in the third month, and they're offering me $250 cashback bonus. Then I'd treat myself to something completely unnecessary.

The key is how much is reported on your statement. You can pay Discover every 3 days and so it would be very easy to spend much more than your CL during a month as long as you time your payments to get the balance down before the statement posts.

That way you can take advantage of this offer.

Thanks for the suggestion on the payments but it really annoys me that they won't raise the limit above $1,700. I have a $20K limit with PenFed, $15K with American Express, $18K with Chase, split between two cards and $5K on a Target Visa. It's not like I need the additional credit line. It's just the principal of it, I guess

Kay_Cee, it is not just you ... so do I. They gave me 2k to begin with and gave me $500 auto CLI once, and now it is stuck with 2.5K CL (this is my lowest CL too). I have higher CL like 10k, 9k (Freedom World MC ... reports a little over of 5.2k), two of 8.6k, 8k. But they are not willing to match/compete with it. The funny thing ... they tells me that they are appreciate my business with them every time I call them. Lollll

I've read the posts about that he/she got auto CLI from Discover. They are using the card a lot ... They might or might not give us CLI if we begin to use their card more ~ more than half of CL.

If you are spending more than 1k/mo on the other cards, use your Discover card for three months with 1k/mo. Make sure to charge at least $1,000.01 every month. Then you can get 5% Cashback Bonus of $150.
