What are good cards for student to apply ?

I am thiniking of asking my 18 year old daugther to start applying cards on her own name. She is a freshman at Ameircan University. She has been AU on my accounts. What are the good cards she should consider to apply on her own and start building the credit for her self?

Assuming she has got a decent score. I would say Citi Forward and Wells Fargo Cash Back College Card.

Those are the cards that I started with early in my college career and they have served me well. I've also had BoA student Platinum Plus and CapOne Classic Visa since my freshman year. I wouldn't recommend either.

I have no experience with student cards, but I have heard good things about citi forward.

Gave me 4k CLI when I was a student, plus a 1.5k cli 3 months later.

Citi Foward, Discover More & AMEX Zync.

Discover owned me a few times before I was approved haha

Since she probably has decent credit because of auth with you... I would skip the student cards and just apply for regular cards, Citi Forward, zync, discover

I would not start with the American Express Zync because they want to see history. But I agree with the Citi Forward because I applied with absolutly no credit history and they still gave me $1000, no AF, great card! After 6 months of using HER credit card, I would apply for the Zync.

IMO being an AU, she already has history.

I think some CCCs throw out history that isn't theirs, eg. being an AU.

We checked her fico scores. They are in the 740-750 range. One thing it is complaining is short credit history of 2.9 years. Looks like I added her on my Amex business card but not my personal card so the Amex age of 20+ years is not representing there. I guess I have to make her an AU on my amex card and have them send her a card. Applied for the Citi Forward student card and received appliation received message. She is also AU on my Citi ATT Business Card. Not sure if that would have any impact on the approval. Debating if we should apply for Zync now or wait for later.

Can I ask why a 19 year old needs all of these CCs right out of the gate? Teaching her to "apply, apply, apply" isn't the best thing for her to do to establish good credit history...especially being so young.

4 apps doesn't seem excessive to me, especially since they are all prime banks that will grow with her. My as well do them all at once and then just sit back and take care of them.

She is already AU on my cards and knows the responsible spending. I am doing this so she can build the credit history on her own. Who knows fico might say we are not going to include the AU accounts into scores. Sooner we build a profile on her own it is better. I'll be monitoring the accounts very closely so I know what she is doing. I can not beleive it was almost like yesterday she was a baby in my hands and now she is a freshman in college. She got accpeted for the internship for US Atty Generals office for coming summer. I am so proud of her. I want her to become a seneator one day. Who knows she might make it. Kids growup so fast now a days.

I would go with this thought, take all that you need for the next 2-3 years in 1 shot and then sit back and relax. Even if she doesn't need all that credit, her cards can talk to her dad's cards in the sock drawer This way by the time she is out of college she will have a strong history (assuming that her dad won't let her get drowned in the credit ocean easily).

Think of it, she can come out of college with her CR reading oldest card 3 years, AAoA 3 years, inq 0, baddies 0

I have been a veteran at ficoforums and I'll watch her credit like a hawk even after she gets married and have her own kids. You can count me.
