i will call the bank before applying and ask them clearly if they consider only AUs to be valid history because you don't have financial responsibility there and some banks wont like that.

If you don't get a sensible answer from the frontline reps, call backdoor but dont apply unless someone indicates you that they don't mind your situation. Going to a local CU and talking to an agent there won't be a bad idea either.

IMO, people with thin files would probably have the best luck getting a credit card where they currently bank, provided you have a good relationship and history with them.

Exactly, just because you are the AU on a credit card with a company, does not mean you have a clean history with them... you have no history. From the CCCs eyes, you aren't a customer of theirs.

I would stick with an entry level card - capital one is good about this. Don't expect a big CL, but you have to get your foot in the door somewhere. As someone else recommended, an Amex Zync might also be a good card to start with. After 12 months, you should be able to pick up a revolver with them.

My wife was in the same situation last year in September. Only AU on my Citi and Amex, nothing else. 0% util, 0 INQ and an EQ FICO of 784. She applied for the Citi Platinum Select and got approved for a CL of $2000. However i have to admit, that we are banking at Citi. So maybe it is worth a try, before you start with Cap1.

LEXiiON
