BOA (Keeping my fingers crossed)

I've had a Secured BOA Visa for 13 months with all payments made on time.

My current EX score is 684 so I called BOA today to request graduating my card from Secured to Unsecured.

BOA said that they would initiate this request and they would need to pull my CR. I authorized this and they said that it would take 7-10 days for a response in the mail.

They didn't pull my CR when I was on the phone but would send it to the department that processes these requests.

It seems like a long time to wait but hopefully I can accomplish this with a 684 score.

I too have a BoA card, and was told by a CSR that if I keep it spotless clean for a year they would move me into an unsecured card.

BOA advised that I had to call them to request this change. Not sure if this is true or not but I wasn't going to argue with them.

This is going to cost me a hard inquiry but my goal is to have my scores in the 720 range by April so figured that this was the best time to take the hit.

I prefer not to "wait" 7-10 days so thought I would call them later this week to see if there was any update. I thought they could do this over the phone but guess not.

Anyway - I'll let you know what happens. I appreciate your feedback as always.

Please do, I didn't ask for the graduation, they just did it. So i would like to know what happens when you ask them for it.

Did you have a regular secured BOA cc or a 99/500 secured cc?

I will call them because I really don't think it should take 7-10 days and will let you know. I've been banking with them since 1990 so hopefully this will help as well.

Good news - BOA approved my request to graduate from Secured to Unsecured !!!

They increased my credit line from $900 to $1400. I thought it may be more but I'm not complaining. I will request a CLI in 6 months.

I've already requested a WorldPoints card so will put this to work for me as well.

Thanks to everyone I am on the right track. I couldn't have done all of this without you.

I'll continue my mission "onward and upward" !!

Congrats BZ woman. You have great scores and don't knock the 500.00 CLI. Its a good one considerin your limit... at least it wasn't 100.00...lol!!! I would say you are well on your way but it looks like you're there.

Thanks "Ducky", now I will receive a check in the mail for $900 (secured funds) and will put that to good use PIF'ing my cc's before next statements report to CRA's !!

My scores will be higher in 6 months so I will hopefully be able to get a nice boost from BOA on a CLI.

Congrats, hang in there for your first CLI in 6 months. I got bumped from $1500 to $5000 with BofA.

Congrats, busywoman!

We have several things in common in that we are both long-time BOA account holders looking to grow our relationship with BOA. I too am hoping BOA will "upgrade" me from secured. I'm trying to be patient and give them a year to make a move (4-5 moremonths). If they don't, I'm out (as far as CCs go anyway). I'm a little concerned that because of an old MBNA baddie from 1999 that they have blacklisted me. Oh well. In the month of November, I have received 3 new cards totaling $41K in unsecured debt. I really want BOA, but there are more fish in the sea and I'm not going to sweat it.

One more thing we have in common: we are both busywomen!

Just be patient. With a solid history they should graduate you. If they don't automatically after 9-12 months I would call them.

You have far more credit avail than I do. I was happy to move over the $4k mark and you have 10x + that amount. Congrats !!!

Thanks for the encouragement, busywoman! Patience has never been one of my strong suits, but I'm learning. It's just that when you've had questionable credit for as long as I have, the slightest vicory makes you anxious to put the entire chapter behind you.
