Just called the BD number twice to request a CLI an was told it would be a hard pull when did they start doing this?

FIA pulls hard on Experian for a CLI.

I would assume the same ot be tru for BOA branded cards?

I just got a cli 2 months ago from BoA without a hard pull. Perhaps they do like some other lenders and try to approve you based on internal criteria first, then if you don't qualify based on those stricter internal criteria, they go for the hard pull.

I had DW try for a CLI online for her Amex-branded BofA CC on April 8th and that was a soft. She was turned down. Aside from that, it was two years ago I tried for one on my BofA and that was successful w/out a hard pull, though again 2 yrs ago.

I was just looking at the online request page recently. I thought it seemed like the language had changed since the last time I looked.

"To request an increased line of credit, complete the form and click the "Request Credit Line Increase" button. By clicking the "Request Credit Line Increase" button, you authorize us to obtain a copy of your credit report and review your credit and employment histories and any other information that allows us to process your request, service your account and manage our relationship with you."

Hmmmm.... This is curious, because BoA hasn't typically done this in this past. After reading this, I called the BD#, and asked if a CLI request would be a hard or soft pull, and the credit analyst told me, in no uncertain terms, that it'd be soft. Just to be certain, I quizzed him on the difference between a hard and a soft pull, and he didn't falter (although I think I could hear his eyes rolling, LOL). By chance, mjbfan79, have your recently requested a CLI in the past 6 months? After explaining that I didn't actually want a CLI, but that I was asking for someone else, he said that sometimes more than 1 request for CLIs, within the same 6 month period, could result in a hard pull.

Wasn't the OP one of the cardmembers who received an adverse letter or what not about being charged an AF? Maybe that has something to do with it, although, the OP did a PC.

Interesting. I did make a request last month. I wonder if the wording changed on my page for that reason, but perhaps didn't change for everyone.

Yes, it looks like BOA has been doing some house cleaning. The wordings for the CLI request changed. Also, I am noticing my old account from MBNA no longer appearing when I log in. Only my BOA AMEX card is now showing.

IME, BoA CLIs have always been soft - until yesterday (last CLI was in DEC 2010).

When I called yesterday, the credit analyst stated that it would definitely require a hard pull. I also noticed that the language on the online CLI request section has changed as well.

Well, I'm glad I took advantage of the CLI button before the change. I got up to $7,000 within a short period of time. I do not think I waited a full six month or even close to ask for CLIs b/t each reqeusts. All good things comes to an end.

Last month I asked for a CLI on both my BoA accounts (denied BTW) and the credit analyst said she would make sure it was coded as a soft which made me think it might have been a hard hit initially. But I won't know for sure until I pull my free EX report again in a few months.

However this same analyst (not first line CSR) was surprised when I informed her that no one can buy an EX FICO score from the EX website. That didn't give me much faith in her knowledge about whether the CLI request would be coded a hard or soft.

It does appear that the verbiage has changed when you click the CLI link-- It think it's been almost 2 years (man, time sure does fly) since I've requested a BoA CLI, but I definitely don't recall the threat of a hard pull being there. Perhaps I'll try calling a credit analyst again tomorrow, to see if they change their tune from what they told me a couple of hours ago.

But... Sounds like we're gonna need a guinea pig to settle this one for certain.

I called in and got a cli 2 weeks back and it was a soft.

BofA named a new CFO last week after a bad Q1 and that could change many things. I remember someone saying that his AF was removed automatically (read automagically)...
