Against my better judgment I app'd for a Chase Amazon card (I already have too many cards and opened too many within the past 2 months). I got a "no instant decision, we will notify you after review" response.

I went ahead and called the 1st backdoor number stickied at the top of the forum, and spoke to an account rep who did not sound like they wanted to be at work. I called and said I didn't receive an instant response, and wanted to see if there was any additional info. they were seeking...the lady responded "you do know it can take up to 30 days to receive a decision...don't you?!!?" <in a snide voice>

Anyway, I answered some questions about some current accounts...I have a couple of balances reporting (after consolidating from my wife's CCs), 2 of which are at about 90% util. However, overall I am only at about 23% util across all of my accounts, and my Chase Freedom has a $0 balance. Anyway, she denied the CC and pretty much hung up.

Think I should try reconing again? I hate to waste an inquiry. I probably should not have app'd for the card in the first place.

I did a recon for the amazon visa last week and thought I'd share here. TU is 745 EQ is 715. I am 19 years old, have two other reporting tradelines, BoA visa with $2500 line, and Discover Open Road with $500 line. Both are my accounts, no AU. I went to buy an American Flag on Amazon after hearing the great news and saw the app for the amazon visa. Figuring all the money I spend on amazon, the 3x points would be great. Go ahead and apply and get the 30 day message. I called the recon number you posted, the 0625 one, and got a nasty rep who said she wouldnt open a recon for a 19 year old. I said thanks and hung up. Kept calling back until someone answered with a nice voice and hung up on the rest. I finally got a guy that seemed like he liked his job, spent 10 mins on the phone, and approved for $500. Wish I could've got more but I'm sure it will grow once they see the use.

I'm just curious, when you ask for a recon through one of the backdoor numbers, is it another hard pull? I asked for a CLI from Chase in February, but was at 90% utilization on all 4 cards I own (BofA Visa, Credit One Visa, Household Bank MC, Chase Visa) I have a 5800 CL on the Chase card, and was given only a $200 increase. Now the card has zero balance (as do all others) so thought about calling in the backdoor number for more substantial CLI but have 5 hard pulls on my EXP report. Any advice?

PS: I haven't pulled my FICO's yet, as all my cards were just paid in full last week and want to ensure they are up to date. My CC statements have all updated as of today, but not sure if they've been reported to the Bureaus. Last week my EXP PLUS score was 716, which I know doesn't mean much as it's not a FICO. Critical that they update before any more pulls. Please help.

Although interesting, I don't think I would ever try and recon a recon, simply because the account specialists you're speaking with should already have a record of your recent inquiries through their departments, including the reconsideration you already attempted.

Well, best of luck! I had a nice enough account specialist during my reconsideration, and he was straight up and up front in telling me what I had to do to get a different result next time, that I just need to lessen the amount of accounts I have open that carry a balance.

A handful of months doesn't hurt in my case. For example, in January I app'd but was denied for a Discover More. I waited 5 months before app'ing again with Discover, and this time around I was instantly approved for Discover More at $2500. At this point in my credit career, I'm using new cards for their balance transfer features, helping me to cut in on my revolving accounts, lowering overall debt without paying any interest. Doesn't hurt that I am getting Prime cards to do this all with.

I wish the OP the best, saying that however...

In college I worked part time in a financial services call center. When someone would call in and they called over and over and over again, it was obvious they were a pain in the you know what. Almost instinctively, those folks probably wouldn't get the help or attention of other clients simply b/c we were telling them the same thing over and over again. Financial service companies are very strict, EVERY time you call in, its noted in your account. If a CSR sees call after call, they are probably more inclined not to help you.

Wish I had something better to tell you, and hope it all turns out well.
