AMEX application question / clarification:

I have recently bought into the AMEX craze, and will be applying at the end of this week once all my payments and CLIs are updated on my CR. I want to backdoor my way to an AMEX Blue via the Skymiles. So, I just apply for Skymiles, and upon receiving the card ask for a "product change?"

Also, I read in another thread that if I were to apply for a Green charge card when I apply for the Skymiles, it will only count as 1 inquiry. Is that correct? Do I have to apply in any special way?

Call 1-877-621-2639 24/7

They handle the cards you want and can take multiple apps on the same call.

If the two apps are done ON THE SAME CALL, AT THE SAME TIME, only 1 pull will be made. If you decide to call back later and apply for a different card, you'll get a second pull.

In addition, when you call to activate the Delta card, ask for the product change. When I did this at first they told me I couldn't switch, but be aware that it can be done. So, if they "push back", say you were told you could do a product change to the blue. I may have had a new CSR, but who knows......

Both applications on one call and insist on the product change, even if they resist. I can do that.

Instant Approval for the Skymiles and Green!!!! I'm excited.

$2k on the Skymiles Gold, I'm satisfied with that.

I tried to call, but the lady said that it would be two seperate applications, two seperate credit checks. She said it would be no different from doing it online.... Did it online, and voila!

Thanks to all you guys, would have never even thought of this. I'll get the card, and product change it to the Blue, and I'm good to go.

I didn't pull right before I applied. I applied based on my FAKO information from TrueCredit. It was: TU: 682, EX: 656, EQ: 676. I had an EQ FICO of 634, before $3k in payments and $1k in CLIs were updated to my report (on about $9k revolving.)

So I would imagine I would have seen a decent jump from that.

I don't have my EXACT figures, sorry.

For those that are curious: I checked my True Credit report today, and so far only 1 inquiry from AMEX has been reported for the 2 cards. I did the app online, one right after the other.
