@Anonymous wrote:

NO CREDIT scores at all (all 3 CBs report empty credit files)

$300 security deposit

Account opened APR 27, 2011 with $451 limit (they added $151 unsecured limit right off the bat)

I do have a number of hard pulls, but I will let you guys know when my first score pops up. As of yet I am not seeing this card reporting. A credit calculator said I should get 690 - 730 (not sure I believe it) once my credit files open up.

One question though - is there any point to increasing the credit limit with further security deposits? It is my understanding that as long as you pay on time and only use 10% you will maximize your credit score. Some have said this card should only be used as a first step to get other cards, therefore I am assuming there is no point to raising my limit.

Depends on your goal. If you are only interested in FICO score, the deposit and limit do not matter.

But a small limit may not be enough for the expenditures you plan to use the card for.

IMO, A bigger limit helps you get larger limits with future applications. I think it is a better strategy to fund securd cards with higher limits.

Hello everyone

In my search for the perfect secured credit card that I can apply for and pay my deposit online i found two

1) Capital one secured - And you can customize your pic on the card

2)BOA

I was just happy to not have to mail in a check or money order and wait even longer for a response which in some cases can be a denial. Capital one even approved me instanly but we'll see what else they ask for..

I'll keep you guys up to date- if you know of any others that let you pay your deposit online please share.

I'm also going to do a test trial for everyone, i applied on 4/22/2010 let's see how long it takes to receive this card.

Definitiely not HSBC.

I just got my original check back with a reapply letter. I sent check with application over 6 months ago.

They did not know where the check was, so I had to go into branch to make deposit, so I actually got the card 2 months ago.

They do usually report as a secured card. I have a secured card with my credit union and in the notes that's how it shows up. The weird thing and I don' t know if this goes in your favor or not I did go over the credit lime once but it only shows the highest its been was the credit line on the account and not the amount that it was actually over.

I just made my first deposit increase because when I applied for the card I had a fairly old cap one charge off (old enough to be past the 7 year mark and off my credit reports) i applied with a low amount. it took 3 days to be taken from my checking account (wells fargo) now I'm waiting fo it to be added to my credit limit.

also asked the CSR again about the road to credit unsecured CLI she said because I had an old charge off it might disqualify me from unsecured increases but she could not say for sure

Just wanted to suggest users check into secured cards from Digital Credit Union or Addison Avenue Federal Credit Union, both of which have no AF and you get all the benefits of their regular Visa cards.

Note that Wells Fargo is no longer converting secured cards to unsecured until the ramifications of this credit crunch and new credit law flush out. Also for those seeking to rebuild credit through HSBC or Orchard, both have just revised their policies and are not extending any CLIs to anyone.

Here's an interesting article I found:

http://www.bankrate.com/finance/credit-cards/10-questions-before-getting-a-secured-credit-card-1.aspx

10 questions to ask about secured credit cards:

What is a secured credit card?

Where can I get a secured credit card?

What kind of charges will there be?

How much money do I have to deposit?

Do all banks offer secured credit cards?

Are there any problems to watch out for?

Do you report to all three major credit bureaus?

How long does it take to qualify for an unsecured card?

How much interest will my deposit earn?

How can I make the best use of a secured card to build my credit rating?

when this account shows up on your credit report please let us know if it reports as secured or not. when this product was around years ago i think it was just reported as a credit card since clis were given after the intial deposit.

I just got off the phone with capital one & I was told that all I have to do now is setup my security deposit & once it clears I'll be getting my card mailed out. The confusion was, when I called last week they said all they needed was address verification so, I faxed over my check stub from my employer & another week went by & I called the automated number to check on the status of the application & it still said they were reviewing my app. So, I called back & spoke with a rep & asked her why are they still reviewing the app. when I already faxed over the document they needed to process the app. She said they are waiting on the security deposit which I told her I wasn't given that option until the app. has been approved but, she said everything on her end is fine & we just have to wait until the transfer of funds clear before they can send out the card. I told her I'll call them back with the banking info. on Friday & she said that'll be fine & that I need not worry because everything has been approved. Why can't they tell you that the deposit is all that was holding up the process on the automated system ? Anyway, it's approved & I'll be adding another positive TL to my reports.

I would be annoyed by that too. I had no problems thank god.

my friend did tho. She applied for 2 cards and sent in the deposit. they accidentally put all the money on one card and could not reverse it. They noticed the error and apologized but thank god she had the extra money to send another deposit in for the other card. I wouldn't have had enough to do that.

I applied for this and got something in the mail that said I needed to send in proof of address and social security number. I called the number today and the woman gave me a fax number if I wanted a quicker decision.

I saw there is an inquiry on my EX report (my worst score I think) from the date I applied.

I imagine I'd have been declined outright at this point? I don't know if it's a good sign or not. I guess I will know tomorrow when I fax it in.
