what is the benefit of having this card that outweighs the huge fee?? Ive had some CA experience and know this card is popular with bustouts and people right out of college who you know wont be able to handle this card.....worst part is the min line you can assign is 5k cuz of the fee! Either way I cant see how someone could justify that fee

The Visa Black Card is only for those who's regular concierge is on vacation or too busy to attend to your immediate attention.

The annual fee associated with this card is meaningless to those who require special attention to their needs.

Believe me, I couln't afford 1/4 inch of the assets accociated with this card, so consider my comment for what it's worth.

Someone wants it, someone needs it, and someone uses it. So hooray for them!

By all accounts this card is junk (do a goole search and see what folks are saying). You're better off with a card like the Chase Sapphire, which has a lower annual fee and better rewards. If you are approved for the "Signature" variety (CL of $5000 or higher), then you have access to the Visa Concierge which will provide equivalent service to the one provided with the Black Card, and use the savings to buy Priority Pass directly or a la carte lounge access.

You're missing out on the carbon fiber card, but folks say the Sapphire Preferred card feels pretty good and different to a standard card.

With that high of an AF I would rather just get an AmEx Platinum, which is probably easier to qualify for and you would have higher spending power.

great call on the ax plat. i was thinking visa/mc network cards for acceptance. but for benefits the ax plat eats the "black card's" lunch!

Yeah basically the general consensus on the card is pretty negative, I read that a few people have gotten approved for the card with income between $10,000 - 20,000.

I don't have it, but I wouldn't recommend it. This card is such a joke; it isn't even a visa signature and the rewards are awful. There has been marketing (magazine ads, billboards even) portraying it as an exclusive card, yet the very existence of the advertising campaign barclays runs is a sign of the card's pedestrian origins and intended market.

I concur that amex plat would be a much better option.

I'm not even sure this is relative, as that card is invite only, has an outrageous spending requirement to qualify, and I'm pretty sure the AF is in the thousands, not hundreds.

I would agree on the plat, though.

That Centurion card is pretty cool actually. I have two clients that have paid with it.

It's hefty lol

Though one client paid instead with his Amex Plat recently. He's a points player lol. I think all Amex card holders are (I certainly am haha)

I just received mine a month ago. So far, I'm loving the concierge service. I'm actually thinking of cancelling my JPM Palladium card. After using the concierge service for both cards, I would have to say they are both on par. The carbon is actually really nice. I think there was a lot of bashing couple years ago, but if I'm not mistaken, I think the new carbon design is a bit better and bulkier. Definitely not as heavy as my Palladium.

Just an observation. But it is interesting how people complain about the $495 annual fee. If you don't use concierge services, I don't think you should get the Visa Black or the AMEX Platinum/Black. It definitely is a waste of money. Whole reason I got the card was for the services/benefits it offered. I have an AMEX Plat as well, but just from personal experience, there concierge service has frustrated me many times (lack of knowledge) and just recently, they cancelled companion tickets. Truly disappointing.

I want to cancel both the Palladium and Platinum, but because I have good credit history with them, I'm afraid to lower my credit score so I am kinda stuck. Not that it is a big deal to people with decent scores, but my score was recently crushed after a foreclosure not too long ago.

As for my stats for people interested in VISA black or AMEX plat:

FICO: 706. Used to be 830 prior to foreclosure 2 years ago.

Annual Salary: $265,000/year

Age: 31

Spending habit: Roughly $20-30K on CCs a yeaer

Traveling habit: Travel at least once a month and use concierge services very often

What card do I recommend?

For great benefits, JPM Palladium and AMEX Plat

For great concierge service: JPM Palladium and VISA Black. I'm biased against AMEX plat after some bad experiences

For a great looking card (in order): 1) JPM Palladium 2) VISA Black 3) AMEX Black

For benefits and reasonable annual fees: AMEX Plat
