Just applied only and received this message. Tried calling but the wait time was 10mins, guess I'll call back tomorrow. Any ideas why they couldn't approved me online or instantly? Does this also mean declined??

I would say they want to approve you but need to verify something that may have been unclear from your report.

10 minute wait times are never ten minutes. They just throw out a nice round number, call them back or it will eat you up

DW got this same message they just wanted to verify our address csr did a 3 way with our bank and it took all of about 5 minutes and she was approved

I guess the only thing I can think of is I just moved a few weeks ago.....

Hope you get approved. Also, I hope you applied through Starwood's site instead of through Amex. The offer is pretty much the same, but through Starwood you have a chance to earn an additional 15K bonus points if you put $15K spend on the card in the first 6 months.

Additionally, if you ever want to refer someone to the card to get a referral bonus, make sure you refer them through spg.com rather than through Amex. Same sort of deal. If you refer them through Amex, they only get the basic bonus for signing up on the Amex site. But if you log on to spg.com and refer them, they'll get the better promo offer. [assuming that spg.com is the one offering the better deal when you do the referral]

Did you try logging into the Amex site and checking for your app status?

When I added my TE to my Gold I used a different address. I logged into the site and updated the address and was approved instantly.

Or, try this number 800-327-2177 and see if they can transfer you.

The update............

Just got off the phone with AX CSR...very nice lady. She told me my EQ report was frozen and asked for the PIN # to access my EQ report. I checked EQ report on 6/02/11 and my Fico was 734 before I apped for the SPG. Anyhow, when she pulled the report today...it showed my Fico is now 745 !! (Just received the alert from myfico.com 30mins ago on my new updated score).

The CSR said she needed to verify my mailing address as I just moved recently. She 3-way me with Chase bank and they confirmed my new address. At this point, I am sweating at the palms. This is my 1st American Express application and I want this card for Hotels perks, etc....

The AX CSR hung up with Chase, confirmed my mailing address in the system and said "Congratulations, you are approved for the American Express Starwood CC with a CL of $12,500".

I will be getting the card in the mail within the next 7-10 days......wooohooooo!!

I'm guessing they also pulled EX since that is their standard. Interesting that they pulled all three because you don't exactly have borderline credit. I wonder if they pulled EQ and TU after they saw a discrepancy in your address on EX.

When I called yesterday evening, the CSR told me I had a freeze on my EQ. I couldn't locate my EQ PIN # so I told the CSR I would call back in the morning. Well, early this morning, I got an alert from TU saying AX requested my TU report. I called back AX later and gave them my EQ PIN # to access my EQ report. So after the CSR went over my EQ/TU report, she 3-way Chase and than I was approved. I don't have an account with EX so I don't know if they pulled EX or not. I would think they pulled all 3 CBs. Last I checked, my EX report had only 1 IQ the L2 yrs. My TU Fico was 720s before my apped spree with Barclays - which now stands at 4 IQ L2 yrs. That did dipped my TU score to 695. I have a total of 10 IQs on my EQ report the L2 yrs and my score was 745 at the time of the approval. I thought I was borderline to be honest when I apped.
