So after looking up things that were hurting my credit score, it was said one of the things I needed to improve on was my number of accounts I have had. My credit lines are all still fairly new, since Feb of this year, so my AAoA is very low as well. So I decided with my DH that I should put in for a few cards now (since my AAoA isnt going to be hurt really), take the inqs so that they generally will fade away at the same time with the ones Ive built up already this year, and not apply for anymore credit this year. This is what has happened so far:

Current Fico scores: TU: 660 EQ: 582

Capital One Standard Platinum Mastercard: Approved $300CL

Old Navy: 7-10 Days

Target Red Card: 7-10 Days

B&N Mastercard : 30 Days

I was informed today that I was approved for Old Navy for a $200CL. GEMB loves me for some reason, this is my fourth card with them.

Have you tried any of the WFNNB prescreens? The nice thing about those is they don't hit your credit. It's a soft inquiry, as long as you're using the prescreen and not straight out applying.

If you're unfamililar with this, go to any of the WFNNB stores and create an account. Make sure you enter your billing information by updating it in your profile (some don't ask for that information upfront). Make sure you've got your name, address, and phone number in there, as it appears on your credit report (specifically EX). Then add an item to your cart. Proceed through check-out as if you were going to purchase the item. On the last screen (after the shipping screen), you'll be presented with the payment method screen. If you're pre-approved, you will see a message stating you're preapproved and what the CL is. I did this with my wife the other night. It was pretty fun. The beauty is, of course, that even if you accept the offer, it should not hit you with a hard inquiry.

Here's an older list of WFNNB stores. Some are not WFNNB anymore, but most are. I'm sure there's some additions as well, but this should be good. Victoria's Secret is one of the easiest ones. AmericanTV is pretty generous with initial CL and CLI's.

Abercrombie & Fitch
American TV & Appliance of Madison, Inc.
Ames Ladies Wear
Ann Taylor
Arhaus Furniture
Ashley Stewart
Avenue
Bealls
BrylaneHome
The Buckle
Carter Lumber Company
Catherines
Chadwick’s of Boston
Charming Shoppes, Inc.
Colombian Emeralds DUTYFREE.COM
Crate and Barrel
Diamond Credit Plan
Domestications
Dress Barn
Eddie Bauer
Erb Lumber
Express
Fashion Bug
Friedman’s Jewelers
Garden Ridge
Goody's Family Clothing
Gordman’s
Harlem Furniture
Henri Bendel
International Male
J.Crew
Jessica London
Kane's Furniture
KingSize
La Redoute
Lamonts Apparel, Inc
Lane Bryant
Lerner New York
Levin Furniture
Limited Fashion Group
Limited Too
Madison's
Marianne
Mastercraft Interiors, Ltd.
Maurices
MedChoice Financial
MetroStyle
Micro Center
New York & Company
Newport News
Palais Royal
Pacific Sunwear
Peebles
Pottery Barn
Reeds Jewelers
RedCats USA
Restoration Hardware
Roaman’s
Samuels Jewelers, Inc./Schubach Jewelers, Inc.
Savon Furniture
Silhouettes
Spiegel
Sports Authority
Stage
Steinbach
Structure
The Company Store
The Limited
Today's Man
Trek Bikes
United Consumers Club
Value City Furniture
V-Girl
Victoria's Secret
West Building Supply
Wickes Lumber
Winbrook Computer Corporation
Woodcraft

Your info needs to match you EX file and you need to be opted in. Obviously and inexplicably, the offers just don't show up for some. Some try a few weeks or months later and it works. As always, YMMV.

I checked my EX, no pulls-soft or hard. Info matches as far as I know. I wonder if different billing/shipping address may have anything to do with it? Both are on my EX. I don't know if I'm opted out or not, but I did receive a CC offer by mail about a month ago.

Weird why they'd pull EQ if contact info needs to match EX. At any rate, both addresses are listed under both EQ and EX. I don't have the urge to check EQ right now though, so I guess I'll find out later.

Well, I said the info needed to match EX, because I was under the impression that's who they used. Maybe I had misread, or maybe ours was a fluke. Who knows. I have seen people with good scores not show a preapproval, but then show it weeks or months later. I think, as stated elsewhere, that they are more generous with preapprovals before big sales.
