Orchard is a good starter card. Tell her to go ahead an apply as long as she doesn't mind paying the fees. It is the most fair of the sub-prime cards as far as fees and rates. Anything over 540 seems to be getting approved regularly. However, that being said, I would apply for a secured card with a bank like Wells Fargo or BOA because you have a good chance of getting a prime card after being good for a year and your credit score improving. If you can't put down the deposit ($300 -- which is what your orchard credit limit will likely be), then I would go ahead and apply for the Orchard card.

My sister, due to horrid divorce, filed bk three years ago. If she apply's for Orchard online, do they usually let you know online or something in the mail? She also had a foreclosure. Scores dismal, but she did recently purchase a new car at 11% interest. Pretty happy about that.

Thanks from both of us.

I applied on 11/18 for an Orchard Card. It told me right then that I was approved but that my application needed to be reviewed. 14 days later my application status is changed from reviewed to approved w/ a $300 CL. Now I'm just waiting for the card. 19 app fee for the Gold mastercard 14.9 apr, $79 AF. They pulled experian. I was approved with no prior credit history except for a couple of collection accounts. EX FAKO was 547 - not enough history for a FICO. Hope that helps.
