BOA AMEX Accelerated Card 5% Cashback

I'm in receipt of a letter from Bank of America telling me I can earn 5% cash back(up to $25) on qualifying purchases through 9/30/11. The letter says whether it's a grill, a new swimsuit or just a bottle of sunscreen, I can get the 5% cashback. I'm not understanding why would they say qualifying purchases, when they offer examples of qualifying purchases, as if it can be anything. Should I interpret a non-qualifying purchase for something like renting a car or booking a flight?

I plan to take advantage of the offer September 1, 2011.

I'm guessing non-qualifying purchases will be cash equivalents like gift cards and such. Even so, there may be ways around that like purchasing gift cards from the grocery store.

When I've gotten these in the past, the categories were included on the letter, farther down or indented somewhere. It genuinely doesn't tell you what categories??

Nope it doesn't give specific categories. But after doing some calculations, its no different than the 5% catergories Discover and Chase offers. My thinking is BOA is conducting a test. I'll have to spend $500 to get $25 cashback.

I signed up through the link you provided and received a similar offer, except mine is limited to the following categories: Gas Stations • Grocery Stores • Drug Stores • Restaurants

I'm trying to decide if they offered this because I haven't used my card much lately, or if they've seen that I now have a Discover card with similar benefits.

It is! You'd have to spend $500 to earn $25 cashback. 5% of $500 is $25.00

that's very little to have another credit card. would make more sense to get a miles card or other cashback/rewards card where the promotion doesn't end after you send $500

My categories are better (for me):

cable, satellite, telephone, internet or insurance

None of them overlaps with my chase freedom categories, so I can make 25 extra in addition to what I can with chase freedom...
