Ok guys....

I thought, with lando getting much love from Capitalone, then maybe I can too. I still have their platinum card with a $500 limit. I have kept it clean for the last year and used it sparingly, but I do use it and kept it paid. So I ask these idiots for a CLI by using the "backdoor" number given on another thread with lando. Ok, so I wait on hold for about 30 mins. Finally someone who says she is a "senior" manager, tells me she cannot up my limit, but she doesnt know why. I told her about my recent cards by USAA (mastercard, AMEX) both $10,000 limits, and that I only wanted $1500 on this card. She said she couldnt do it. But she said, call this number and they can try from their end and manually do it or tell me why not. She also said it would be a soft pull. The number was 1800-955-7070. Well, I called it and the automated service (which is what it was) told me that they couldnt give me a CLI by automated system OR actual representative. And it still didnt tell me why not!

You know, I dont even want to talk to these idiots anymore. They can keep this crappy card. I understannd when my credit was bad, they gave me a chance, but even then, I kept my nose clean, used this sh**ty card with it's elevated interest rate, paid their fees, and they wont show me love when I get on my feet? Dont they understand about COMPETITION? Well FINE. I am going to cut this card in half, close the account and mail it to their customer service center. This doesnt make sense, but whatever, I really dont care their reasons. If USAA and Bank Of America trust me to give me limits more in line with my credit rating, then who do Capital One think they are? She could have at least offered me another card if she couldnt do it on the starter I had! Seems to me they really dont want my business.....So they wont have it.....

Cap 1 is trying to shed its Crap 1 image, although the message hasn't gotten out to all its people yet. Brammy's right --tuck it away for the winter next to some nice warm wool socks, and see if they don't come drifting on back to you in a few months.

If they don't, then to h*ll with it, that means it was a training wheels card. Off they come; no longer needed!

poo on capital one stpn!
i requested a CLI 3 months ago and got the usual run around + they reduced my APR by 2% to 14.9% but NO CLI love!
i read the 3 posts over the past 2 days of everyone getting a CLI from them so I called the backdoor number today.
i explained to her that my other major credit card limits are over $5000 each + that i wanted a CLI from $2000 to $5000 or more in order to transfer some balances.
she said my record as a customer with them has been amazing (no lates, pif mostly but have on occasion left a balance to make them happy) + thanked me for being a customer for over 4 years.
still no CLI love at this time?!

WTF?!

if they weren't one of my oldest cards i would have closed the account today.
perhaps if i threaten to close it next month....?

No worries everyone,

I have very nice credit cards from other companies that blow capitalone out of the water. I will sock drawer this card, trust me. It also is one of my older cards and I will NOT use it again. To be honest, I am more angry that they WOULDNT TELL ME WHY I am being denied. If it is because it is a starter card, TELL ME. Then I would app for a prime card with them. If I was late a year ago, (which I was 30 days) then TELL ME. I would understand. But I cant get a straight answer out of anyone even when I speak to a rep or "senior" manager. That only tells me bad customer service. It looks to me they prefer people in bad financial situations because they know these types of people need money and will charge up their cards. It just doesnt make sense. Maybe a year of inactivity will shake them out of their senses....

I have to be honest, everyone. I have never had any problems with Capital One. I've been a cardmember since 2000, have a 7.9% fixed on purchases and a $7,500 CL. So no complaints, but when I started becoming educated about FICO scores on these boards a few weeks ago, I decided I'd help out my util's and get a couple CLI's. I figured I'd start with Capital One - since I've been "such a good customer" (to use their words) for so many years, I didn't figure there was any way they'd deny my request for CLI. Well, I tried through the automated system and got the same message everyone else does - "Not available through our automated system or by talking to a representative." So then I tried the backdoor number - same thing. The lady, who was supposedly a senior account manager couldn't do anything for me. Then I got a letter a couple days later saying "this account is not available for CLI upon request. We occasionally review accounts.... and if we feel you're eligible, we'll contact you." Ridiculous.

So sorry I can't offer any help, just wanted you to know you're not alone Stpn.

It appears that the longer you are with CapitalOne, the less love they show you. My thing is that they would most likely give you an increase if you gave them a reason why you need one (i.e. major purchase).

Nah, tried that one. It wasn't till I rec'd the magic email, & then the letter, that I was able to get a whopping $500 increase & 1%CB. I'll prob be stuck at $2.5k for another 2yrs. Oh well.

That underscores what I have been talking about. I have shown this company that I deserve credit and can use it responsibly, now they are showing us they dont deserve our business. I will not use this card again unless I have too. There are better companies out there....

Sounds like you need to change cards with them, you have the rebuilder. I don't have the rebuilder and have never had a problem with them. Then again you sound like you have a sour taste in your mouth with them, so just move on. That happens with rebuilder cards...you out grow them.
