It really is a great card. W/ 2x points for gas and groceries, they add up real quick; use it at least enough to offset the AF.

Thank you and yes I applied online pretty much figuring I would get turned down. I wasn't expecting the approval, however, I will use the super secret promo when the card arrives

Calling in after you have been approved? I like applying on the phone, can one simply ask for that promo at the time of applications.

Seems to easy for them to say no once you're already signed up.

I had the card for almost a month when I found out about the promo for 75k points. All I did was send them a secure email through my account and received a message back giving telling me they were giving me the points.

Well a follow up on my new Amex Card...

So I have had it for a few days now and love it! While I have only used it at Starbucks, and groceries... I will be making this my daily card, once I pay the balance on my Chase Freedom. From here on out, the Chase will be exclusive to the rotating catagories, while the Amex will be used for everything else! As for the free 75,000 MRP, I got turned down for it. According to the CSR on the phone, she indicated that I was not "targeted" for that promo and only the 10K. Any suggestions on how to get the 75k, or am I SOL? Also any tips, or pointers on how to best maximize the benefits AMEX provides?

This is my daily card also. Theres a few tips Ive learned along the way. For example, you get double points for grocery (excluding places like Costco). If said grocery store carries gift cards for places you go alot, buy them there. In my example, Fry's grocery has gas stations. you earn fuel points for every dollar you spend. I just bought a new house, so Home Depot is my favorite place now lol. Frys is also running a 4:1 promo on gift cards. So, I go to Fry's, buy a $200 Home Depot gift card, earn 800 fuel points (so $.80/gal discount), earn 400 Amex MR points, all for a single $200 transaction. Stuff like that. Also, WalMart only earns you one point/dollar; however, you can buy WalMart gift cards on Amex's shopping site and earn 2, 4, or sometimes 10x face value.

If you travel, shop around, but Ive found Amex's travel site to be pretty competitive. Ive also gotten nice ticket upgrades for shows in Vegas for using the PR Gold card.

Anyway, just a couple of ideas.

I think that is a good way to handle it, I also have the Freedom and am currently using it for my 5% gas spend which expires at the end of september. My plan is to use my PR Gold card as my daily spender and move my gas spend and groceries to my Blue Preferred card, these will be my two go-to cards depending on the 5% rotating catagories on Freedom and Discover More.

As for the 75k MR points offer, AMEX noticed that many people who did not recieve the targeted offer were trying to redeem those offers and so adjusted their systems to determine who was eligible for the offer, for those that had the offer noted they are now not honoring those offers, there are several threads on some of the airline forums about this (probably cant post the link due to forum rules), unfortunately for us we were too late.

Try sending a secure message from your Amex Internet Banking account. This was the message that got me 75k.

It has come to my attention that there was promotion (put promo number here) that gives a new card member 75k points for signing up after spending $1k. I just signed up and feel that it is unfair that I was not registered under this promotion being run. I am requesting that my account be credited with this promotion.

I agree that it is a good card to have. I was approved for this card back in February and received the 25,000 membership rewards points. Since then, I have redeemed the points for about an additional $150 worth of gift cards so the points really do add up. I am planning on product changing to the Zync right before the annual fee hits..$175 is a little steep for me on a card. Zync will be just fine for my needs, but congratulations on your new card. They are VERY generous with the dollar amount of purchases they will approve.

It was a targeted offer for new PR Gold cardmembers only. AMEX are no longer honoring the offer if you were not specifically targetted.

I applied for an Amex Gold PR card on Dec 9th and I just got it today. I love it. I called asking for the pre-set limit and i was told $10000 due to my credit report. I'll try to upgrade to Platinum in six months or a year.
