I received a USAirways BOA pre-approval offer in the mail. I checked their web-site for pre-approvals and saw the BOA AMEX, Visia Platinum and Rewards cards all with $3,500 limits. My EXP score just went up to 723 and should go higher in the next few weeks when CC's report 0 balance, but may go down due to a potential collection account that could appear.

What card would you recommend? Do they all report limits to the Bureau's?

The BOA Amex is underwritten by BOA just the same way as the Plat, etc. I personally consider the Amex the better deal because of the APR, rewards, plus them starting you off with the $50 statement credit isn't bad either. I just got this card and at 9.9% it is my lowest APR, which makes me happy even though I PIF. Also, if you have any bank cards with higher limits then what you're initially approved for, they seem to have no problem matching those on activation.

You're right, I don't know what I was looking at--the BofA AmEx does work out better than the Visa.

I would be very skeptical about what the AmEx CSR said about the BK knocking you out of the BofA version of the card. USAA offered me their co-branded AmEx when I still had a 30-60-90-120 that was only 9 months old. I can assure you that I couldn't have gotten a "real" AmEx with that!

Does the BOA Platinum Visa report limits to the bureau's? How can you tell if it's a signature card?

I'm really concerned because last month I received the Citi Premier Pass card and then realized they didn't report limits. I just ran my TC report and they're listing the balance owed as of the first statement date (Dec 7th) but they're not even reporting my high balance. It says limit 0 and doesn't mention that I had a balance of 7000 and paid it down to 1200!!

HMS

ficonovice wrote:

Does the BOA Platinum Visa report limits to the bureau's? How can you tell if it's a signature card?

I'm really concerned because last month I received the Citi Premier Pass card and then realized they didn't report limits. I just ran my TC report and they're listing the balance owed as of the first statement date (Dec 7th) but they're not even reporting my high balance. It says limit 0 and doesn't mention that I had a balance of 7000 and paid it down to 1200!!

HMS

I had a BoA Platinum Visa for several years (I changed it to a BoA World Points Visa card last year). It did report credit limits to the bureaus. I originally chose the Platinum Visa card because, at the time, the APR was much lower on the Platinum card (a 7.9% fixed APR) than the rates offered on BoA's rewards cards. Last year, I told BoA that I wanted a rewards card--they changed it to the World Points card, and also allowed me to keep my 7.9% fixed APR.

Signature cards are generally clearly designated as "Signature," so you shouldn't have any problems making that distinction.

Well, I just appd for the Platinum Plus card on the BOA Pre-Approved offers website. Unfortunately I received the 10 day message. I think they should have pulled EXP and this morning my FICO was at its all time high of 737. The message said thankyou for accepting the preapproved offer. You'll receive information regarding this preapproved offer within 10 days....

ficonovice, when you activate your card (I assume you will get it with a nice score like 723) inquire about BoA's Financial Rewards Platinum Visa. Basically a 1% cashback card or your choice of other rewards. I had the BoA Platinum Visa for like 6 years, and at some point in the last 12 months Ithey upgraded me to the financial rewards platinum visa without ever sending a new card (hence the old card still reads platinum visa - weird). That's why I'm thinking maybe you can upgrade? The only thing that made me take notice was my statment would read "you have such and such points" . Finally I go online to find out what I can get for a measly 226 points and turns out each point is worth $1 cashback! I don't know if its their best rewards card but it is a type of Platinum Visa and they upgraded me automatically.
