Best Way To Pay American Express

Do they like you to charge up your card with whatever you would normally and then pay it off after you get the bill or would you be better off making a few payments to keep the balance lower and to not "scare" them if it starts to get high during the normal course of the month?

I just got this green charge card and want to make sure its handled perfectly.

First month you can only make payments via your banks bill pay as the Amex payment won't accept charges until statement posts first.

I wouln't worry about it to much unless it's out of your normal spening... Amex will let you know if they want to see a payment, always good to put your checking account on file because if they call you or decline you or anything like that and want a payment before due date, you can just authorize them to do it on spot and they will unlock your account even though payment has not cleared.

I have all three of my amex accounts on AUTOPAY. I never have to worry about being late.

If I charged something expensive, I log in sooner and pay the balance down before it reports to the CB.

Don't worry about AMEX. Just make the payments on time and you will be fine. If you want to keep your UTIL low, pay down before the statement cuts.

Since AMEX doesnt report a limit, your highest limit you reached is what is reported...correct? I thought that credit bureaus dont take this in to consideration anymore though since its a charge card?

So I should just be able to pay the bill when i get the bill without ant adverse effects?

I think the previous poster was referring to revolving cards. But yes, try to always pay AMEX on time and in full especially, especially, if you are a new card/account holder.

Yeah, i have basically just been waiting for it to give me a due date and amount due. Basically have my finger on the trigger waiting to pay them haha. Just want to know what the "credit enthusist" way of doing this was...like if you should be paying even if there is no amount due yet or what...

Funny, I am in the same situation with my BCP. I have been able to pay $300 a few days ago and wanted to get below 10% now, but they won't let me pay again. I did, however, find at the end of my activity page an indication "period closing 9/27" or something.

I don't think it matters when you pay (as long as you pay on time) cards that don't report a balance because the only reason to pay by a certain date (e.g before the statement date) on a revolving account is so you report a low balance. I don't think AMEX, or any CCC for that matter, cares if you pay 2 weeks before your due date or the day before your due date as long as you are on-time and aren't leaving a balance.

this should answer your question. note .that on average, 70 percent of all amex credit card holders carry/report a balance on their statements.

I have a zync and I just use for everything I normally would, and just PIF when I get my statement. I've never had a problem with it and usually charge 1-2k a month on it.
