Hi, I applied for a Amazon.com Store card & received this letter. Can any1 tell me what HIGH RISK SOURCE OF APPLICATION means?

You might be able to call them and talk to a credit anaylist about it? Try ne of the backdoor numbers on this site or GEMB. Worth a shot.

Someone posted recently that they were declined for a card from another lender (can't remember who) because someone at the same address, I think a family member, had had problems with that lender.

If you've had anyone living at your address who had a relationship with GEMB that went sour, that might be the problem. Seems incredibly unfair, but considering how many people open CC accounts in the names of family members and friends, who have no idea that they're doing so, I guess I can see where they're coming from.

eta: this is especially spooky if you rent part of a house, and someone else there (same address) has goobered up their credit. Yikes...

Seriously, are you in the US?

I have seen this when running credit for people that have an official address in a "high risk" country.

If you are in the US, then perhaps there is something "high risk" about a more specific location like some of the other posts. Are you in the Military and stationed in a "high risk" location?

I called spoke with a manager, I was told that my application was denied for either 2 reasons. I had either had recently applied with gemb for muiltiple accounts or had alot of inquires on my credit file. No inquiry has showed up as of today. I have 1 gemb account "walmart" opened in may. No others, I did apply from a public computer maybe that was it. Btw im in the usa not overseas

I would cal them back again because the explanation you received IMHO was neither helpful nor constructive..also remember since you were denied credit you're eligible for a free credit report. May as well take advantage of that...

Not if they never pulled a report because they used their own internal records (i.e. if they rejected him because he applied for another account back in May).

What this means is that they know the IP address of where you are and decided that makes the likelihood of you actually being the person to be great. Basically, if you are not in the US they know it by the IP address. Don't fault them for that. It is possible that you are in the US and not near the address you live at or in a public location as a library and this could also result. It still really amazes me that they would even pull a credit bureau report since they have determined this and made the decision regardless of your score or the fact that the address you using is your home address in the US!

Nope, GEMB seems to like their established customers. That is unless you have any issues with your other accounts they might not look kindly upon.

Nope, GEMB seems to like their established customers. That is unless you have any issues with your other accounts they might not look kindly upon.

The 2 cards I have from them have been treated good the past 3 months. I've had them for 3 months.

I would tend to agree. GEMB likes established customers. Once you have an account with them, and have established a history of paying on time for six months or more. They are most likely to approve you for another. I have three three accounts with them.

What if you apply thru your work computer and that IP address goes thru another state, I guess your denied, that seems unfair

If you are in the military and stationed overseas they also decline your application with the same old "High Risk Source of Application." Seems pretty dumb to me since they have other methods at their disposal to verify if the application is legitimate or not. Guess they are too lazy.
