Hello all. I'm considering applying for a card from Nordstrom or Dillards. I've already reviewed the terms for each one. Just wondering which one to go with. Dillards is closer to me, but of course I love Nordstrom too. Anyone have either of these cards? How are they treating you and what are your credit limits? Thanks

I don't have any experience with either of their cards, but in my opinion the stores aren't really comparable. It's like asking if you should get a toyota or a bmw.

What does your credit profile look like? If you could use them, is there any reason not to try for both? Nordstrom is probably the more difficult to qualify for of the two.

I've had my nordstrom card for about 6 years now. It was my very first credit card. They started me off with a very low $500 limit on a store card. I now have an $8,000 limit on one of there signature visa's. I must say the customer service is great just like you would expect from them && they are pretty generous with CLI as well everytime i woudl call up and ask they woudl give it to me. Just haven't asked in a while bc i didn't want to get to greedy!

well nordstrom is much higher end and has thier own bank, as well as the mark down outlet nordstrom rack (purchases at either store count for the rewards poins).

dillard's is issued through, yep good old ge. ok issuer, but as said before not known for high opening lines.

the thing that really sets nordstrom apart in my mind is the level of service. if you can afford the prices, nordstroms.

Definitely Nordstrom over Dillards. Both are good stores, but Nordstrom's has much better customer service. I'm an hour outside Tysons Corner, and have always received top notch customer service when i've shopped there. I've shopped at Dillards many times when i lived in the Carolinas, and they are good also, but not like Nordstroms. If you have a good credit profile, and not many recent inquiries, i would go for the Nordstrom Visa, as it has better terms than the store card. Just my .02

I'm a Nordstrom kind of girl, but know how to shop within my budget. My EQ FICO from this site is 719, but I have about 7 inquiries on my report. Think they'll still approve me? I'd rather go for a card that gives a higher credit limit than the other, of course. Only downside is I have to drive about an hour just to get to a Nordstrom, but it might be worth it.

Thanks all!

I have a Dillard's card and I love it!!! My limit is $3350. I've had it for a couple of years. They are great with giving credit increases every 4 months on the dot when you pull the love button. And it's a soft pull too!!!

I signup for a Dillards Amex about 6 months ago. Only things I have purchased from Dillards are Hugo Boss clothings. That's why I got the card in the 1st place, they had a 10% discount at checkout. They started me off with a low shocking limit of $600, never had a card this low...well, since 15yrs ago...anyhow, they bumped me up to $2500 when I requested a CLI online last week. It was a soft pulled and I am ok with that. Will hit them up for another CLI in 6 months. I read that Dillards Amex is cap out at a CL of $10K. I can take the card to Nordstroms and they accept Amex there........

Nordstrom and Dillards not the same store by long shot, you see Dillards in KY where I came from but you don't see Nordstrom!

In addition even if they want to test you out first and give you store card with limit under $1k, give it 4-6 months, do a little shopping and pay it off and request for increase and upgrade to visa... you will get it!!!

I have Dillards Amex currently, CLI have been very small and very slow, interest is pretty terrible but blah rewards were decent when I lived there and could hit up the additional 40% off of 50% kind of thing.

but when I had Nordstrom, went from store of like $1500 to a Visa of 8k and also added a joint Signature the first month they offered that starting at 10k and uped to 12k when I was at the 10k limit and trying to buy at one of their fabulous big spender private parties.... Nothing makes you feel like you are carrying an American Express Black card as the store being closed early and they send paper invitations and have free food and wine, oh and a gift at door.

Anyway that was a better time for many people I guess... I would not be able to shop like that currently

Well, hey guys - I'm kinda sad. But it'll be ok. I just called to check my app status and was told (the lady was very nice by the way), and she told me I was approved for a retail card. When I asked the limit, she said $500. I'm like - what? I thought my current FICO would at least qualify me for a higher limit. Oh well, she did tell me that I'd probably get an increase in 4-6 months if I pay my bill in full every month. She also said to try asking for an upgrade to the Nordstrom VISA after about 6 months.

Anyone else had this experience? I absolutely love Nordstrom and would love to carry their VISA with a high limit.
