What is the most any one has charged on an Amex card in one purchase. I know it says no preset spending limit,and I have bought some cars with mine approx. $31,000.

Did you tell them ahead of time you were paying with amex? If you negotiated a good deal and then hit them with the amex, and the fee they will have to pay, they probably weren't happy but I'm sure you got some good rewards from amex.

Also did you have to call amex and tell them ahead of time in order to clear a giant purchase like that?

Actually in 05 I bought a new 04 Excursion that they were REALLY motivated to sell and they let me use it,did not ask Amex. I bought an 07 Ram 1500 in June mid 30's asked Amex ,"no problem"It actually actually struck me as odd how casual they were about it.I did not use on that occasion as the dealer wanted to add fees,I was buying right at invoice.I thought as long as Im not gonna carry the balance why not get the points,but its not worth the 3% or whatever to get points which are worth 1% at best.I have bought many boats with it with no problem .

I have learned from this forum to watch the utilization,which is another gripe of mine.Am I the only one who doesnt think they should report the balance on Amex even though you PIF ,and to top it off it doesnt show CL.

I think they should report the balance you carry which would be 0 .I m just thinkin theres a difference between pif a 10,000 Amex bill and making the minimum on a 10,000 visa,but my credit report doesnt think so.After reading this forum ,I pay Amex online before bill to keep utilization in line.Is this silly or what?

Yep, it is a little silly, but that's how the game is played.

There are lots of posters around here, myself included, who make multiple payments per month, all carefully timed, just to be able to influence the reported balance on each card.

In some respects I suppose it's unfortunate that this game has to be played at all, but that's the way it is.

Once one has a decent score, the game only needs to be played very carefully just before applying for credit or getting an insurance review

but I think the amex Charge account reports someway special so it doesn't hurt your util.

a 1979 Lincoln Mark V Limited Edition Bill Blass- Mom's car was a lemon (a 1980 Olds Cutlass) - I bought it for her and she paid me when she got her money from the dealer because of being a lemon.... this was in September of 1981 -- AmEx really liked that one (the dealer wasn't too happy though)

On Equifax's new look credit report if you click on "other accounts" it says something to the affect of -- other accounts such as 30 day accounts or american express charge cards. I was checking to see if my new charge card was reporting and I noticed that. I don't know if it is new, but it new to me.
