Wow, that's a great schedule. I hope Discover's categories overlap with them again for 2012, since I don't qualify for a Freedom yet.

The one thing I dont understand is Amazon, Khols, etc is a category or a store? Also is walmart considered a grocery, did anyone ever find that out

Walmart is considered "merchandise." However, if your Walmart has gas pumps, it will be coded as "gasoline" when you make your purchase.

The gas pumps here atleast in Texas are under the Murphy USA name so it really does not show as walmart at all........

Whether a store is coded as grocery varies with each store. And even if it's coded as grocery, the CCC can flag the purchase and refuse to give cashback.

Note to Citi and Discover: we don't want you guys competing with each other, why not just give us all different categories. Better yet, do the same categories as Chase Freedom, but at a different schedule.

6 months of 5% off gas = YES!

I'm so glad it's more than 3 months this time around. Maybe Discover will have alternating months, hehe. On the "off" months I use my BCP and get 3% off so I find this GREAT!

Those of you with a BCE/BCP who buy gas at Costco should pay attention to the prices. 3% off at Costco will likely still be cheaper than 5% off at a normal gas station!

Do you need to be a Costco member to fill up at Costco stations?

I'm excited about 6 mos. of 5% on gas! I also prefer that they're listing specific stores instead of categories now... saves the "what does this store code itself as" angst that seems to be near impossible to determine until after the fact.

Also, count me into the group hoping that Citi and Discover will have different monthly categories. It'd be great if I could get 5% back on gas year-round by rotating cards. It never made sense to me that they would match categories... if they match again, my Discover's never going to see the light of day! Anybody know the reasoning behind all the major rewards cards offering the same rotating categories each quarter anyway?

Haha, same here. I'd much rather use my Freedom over the Discover. I think they try to relate some of the categories specific to the time of year. For instance, hotels and airlines during the winter when many would vacation. Citi has fitness during first quarter - a lot of people hit the gym, or buy memberships for New Year's resolutions, during winter when they can't do much outside, etc. I don't know, that's just how I see it and even with the restaurants.

Discover's categories are out now and guess what...THEY RAISED THEIR CAP TO $1,500 too!
