Ya I know I can charge more than 40 on that card, but I would rather no worry about paying it off right away. I may give them a call if my AmEx BCE card is not approved. Everything that I have read says that they will not increase your limit with out a HP.

That PenFed card seems like the ultimate gas card but I doubt they would aprove me with an AAoA of a year.

I looked into this recently, as I spend a lot on gas. It turns out that most of the gas cards have pretty low caps on the cashback rewards, and since you're restricted to a higher priced group of stations it's either a loss or breakeven at best.

I decided to use traditional cards for gas, get the rewards back and keep shopping at discount stations. That seems to be the best way to use credit to minimize fuel expense. The card I really want is AMEX BCP that gives 3% on gas and 6% on grocery, but my credit is not quite there yet. With the current price of gas that would get me about 10 cents a gallon cashback off the already lower price.

My first credit card was from Shell. They only thing I had on my record at that point was some student loans.

They gave me a low $400.00 CL at a high 24% APR. I have had the card for 1.3 years now and no CL bump on my year anniversary of having the card. From what I have been reading the Shell card is not one that will grow with you. I plan on applying for an American Express Blue Cash Everyday card in December and I plan on using it to buy gas on it from then on. I was very happy to start building my credit report with a Shell credit card but I think it has been time to say good bye.

Spending under 10% on a 400.00 CL on gas in a month is getting annoying.
