AMEX AU question

My mom just called me this evening letting me know that my AU card arrived in the mail. She activated it for me and shredded it so there's no issues.

My question is - how long until I see AMEX on my credit report? Should I wait 30 days or more?

good take up to 60 days, but probably faster.... Amex lags a little sometimes

I don't understand why she would shred it. I added my son as an AU (who is 18), but I still have his card. Once he becomes a junior or senior, he should be able to app for his own card and be able to take advantage of the member since date. Your mom could have just put your card in a safe and call it the day.

Not to hijack your thread but...

Is there a difference at AmEx between ordering an additional card for someone and making them an AU? I was trying to add my wife as an AU (I thought) on my AmEx Delta Skymiles card and it told me the decision would be made in 7-10 days. For AUs on AmEx do you normally enter SSN? I called in and they told me it was the same thing, but I did see another area to authorize someone as a user to access your accounts and speak on your behalf. Dunno if I unintentionally had AmEx pull my wifes credit with a HP.

When I added my wife and my son as AU, I gave AMEX their social and was told the same thing, 7 - 10 days..even though when I logged on to my account, their info showed up after the 3 day. My wife and son received their cards in exactly 7 days.

I experienced the same sort of issue. I contacted Amex about adding my husband as an AU on my card and they thought I meant giving him the authority to call in for me, access my account online, etc. When I explained to them what I meant, then they finally understood. Not sure why Amex has a different system.

Amex wants the SS# either way.

They have two classes of AUs: regular authorized users and account managers.

Authorized users get a card, and they are able to track their spending. Account managers can get full access to your account, as well as a card.

Did she keep a record of the CVV number? they may ask for that for verification.

she said she was calling in to activate the card prior to shredding it.

She shredded the card because I don't need it. I only wanted the backdating and don't intend on using it since it's not mine to begin with. Besides, at 31 (almost 32), I should be helping my mom out rather than the other way around (and by helping out I mean I pay when we go to lunch, movies, etc)

i thought if you got a card in your own name as a primary not au you dont get the backdating because your technically a new member, when you were an au you get the backdating on the primary's membership start date

I was told the opposite. In fact, one member even thought I could backdate my amex (AU on DGF acct) to MY member since date, which is 3 years longer than her own.

Normally, it takes AmEx some time before they start reporting. I'd say 60 days or a couple of billing cycles is the norm.

On one of my AmEx cards, they reported it in 3 weeks, which surprised the heck out of me. All my other AmEx cards have taken 2 full billing cycles before reporting.

LOL...yeah, the odds are that it'll be some time before Barclays will even know you've got a new Amex.

LOL...yeah, the odds are that it'll be some time before Barclays will even know you've got a new Amex.

Well all I can do is use the card and PIF like I have been doing. Maybe that will offset the new account hate they got!
