Does Target give generous credit lines? What about CLI's?

most (including me) get the store card w/a 200 cl and some get bumped to 500 after the 3rd statement. even fewer get upgraded to the visa. it seems that the method of choice for selecting upgradies involves a blindfold and a dart board.

I called the other night on my quest for CLI's and they don't accept requests anymore. It is on their menu.

I have had my card for two cycles with a whopping $200 limit maxed twice paid in full a few days later.

i've heard of lower scores being approved, but for a cheesey 200cl i would think long and hard before burning a hard on them. if i knew then, what i know now i wouldn't have appd (did it before i started hanging here).

I got approved with much lower scores then that. Also, if you don't get the visa, they will move you up after time.

As ducky mentioned above, they do convert, but they do it when they're good and ready, and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to their decision process.

The rule of thumb with them is that you start out with $200 store card, then (perhaps) auto CLI to $500 on or about your third billing cycle. After a year or so you may be upgraded to Visa, which generally starts at $1K CL. Or you may stay at $200 for years, as some have reported. They don't accept CLI requests.

I went to target to get the X box 360. I had no credits cards at all and a Equifax score of 536. I applied just to get the 10% off of the X box and was approved for a $200 cl. It went up to $500 after 2 months. 7 months later its still stuck at $500. I will only use it every 3 month for now on.

Do a search here on these forums for Target. Maybe the key to CLI's and conversion to Visa is lots of util, although that didn't work for some.

One thing at least about Target is that they have their own bank, so you don't get abused by some of the other banks that service retail cards.

You have almost the exact same FICO's as mine, low 600's, when I applied for the Target Card - instant approval for the store card with a $200.00 CL... I think you have a good chance... GL

I think I started at $200 with them almost 9 years ago, and was converted to the Visa about 3 years ago, but with a 22% interest rate (yikes!). I just got them to drop the interest rate last week, although I always PIF.

It took me all this time to get a CL of $2000. My son just got his upgraded to a Visa, and they gave him $6000. I just don't understand their process, but this TL is so old and so clean (no AF) that I'll never give it up.

Target does not usually auto approve the Visa product on scores less than 680. Things have changed recently so who knows? I would bet on the store card but as PPs have said the Visa upgrade is probable.
