I'd be surprised if a Discover representative (who are always described as "nice") would give you a precise and cogent answer to that question. I would be surprised if they even know. They probably switch you back and forth from their X center in State X, USA to their Y center in State Y, USA. But hey, I like to be surprised. Someone go and call up Discover and prove me wrong!v

I have a discover more card and the rotating categories right now thru end of year I get 5% on rest fashion and department stores but my question is I am always shopping at target and on my statement it says merchandise. Would target be considered department store because if so I have hit my cap on this quarters cats and will be happy please tell me if this is the case

I think your best choice would be to call up Discover and ask them what they consider Target. It's not like it's a small chain, so someone there should know what it gets coded as on their end.

My assumption (that I base on absolutely nothing) is that they get coded as the same as chains like Meijer and Walmart. So I doubt they'll qualify as a department store. For department stores, I'd think places like Macy's or Nordstroms would count.

Best choice is to call them up! Discover's reps that I spoke to so far were all really nice, so I'm sure they can help you, especially since Target is such a big chain.

I think your statement shows it as Discover considers it, so merchandise would probably not fall into department stores category. If you call Discover, let us know what they say.
