Should I call to unsecure or wait a year?

after 12 months i called to unsecure 99/500,they gave me $3.500 cl ,then after 2 weeks called again i asked them to convert to boa amex accelerated. no problem.

Which one do you have the fully secured or the 99/500? I have the fully secured I asked when I could get it unsecured and was told by one csr 9 months and then I was told 12 months by a different csr. I've read some success stories at 9 months. I say you call and go for it tomorrow. Do you have any baddies on your reports?

Cain why did you get a secured card with your scores. Im just curious. What the reason was. How was your credit report and score when you got it?

ShiningDown, I had just found this site and had read about the card. I hadn't checked my scores as I didn't think I'd get so into this site and repairing/rebuilding my credit. My first scores pulled were after this card, and I do believe the card helped there.

I had a few negatives on my CRs, and less positives. I will try and start a thread detailing my trek from cash only for 8-9 years to getting my first AmEx this past December after only having my BofA secured for 8 months.

I would call at the year mark and see if they will unsecure.

LS, do you think it'd hurt to try at 9 months? I think if you get the right CSR it may work, and if not they'd tell you to try again at 12 months.

I've been calling since my card was 4 months old and I got my Discover, lol.

I don't think it would hurt at all. Prior posters have had success in this thread, but it always looks better to a CSR with a full year good history. You may have to catch one in a good mood for 9 months.

Wait until your 13th statement cut. If they unsecure it before that, you're good.

BOA tends to be very adamant about the 12 months for them to 'see' how you're managing it.
