AMEX Zync Denied.......Recon?

I decided to come out of hiding and app for the AMEX Zync. The only givin reason I was denied was "legals" which I assume is an unpaid three year old judgment. I was a JetBlue AMEX card holder until they abruptly closed my account in 2009. Letting my emotions rule I made the mistake of not paying them until it went to collections. I did pay them not too long after. And would love to find my way back into JetBlue card membership.

My question is, is this worth a recon? Do I have a shot? I have great income. My balances are a bit high on most of my cards (which is most of the reason for the low scores) after paying for a wedding, although we should have them paid down by summer. I have one collection with Verizon which is due to come off once they finish their own internal investigation (billing error). Should I wait until I pay down the cards and remove the collection to ask for a recon? Or should I try and recon now since none of these reasons were listed as a factor for the decline?

Yeah, I don't have any black marks with Amex (mine are all tax-lien related for the most part) but I've been trying to figure out the quickest route into their good graces for future backdating.

They have another "flyer" program with a pre-paid debit card: "Make Your Move" is how they're advertising it... though I have to laugh at their "Feels like Membership!" campaign tagline.

Nobody yet knows if it'll produce meaningful results for those of us in a building or rebuilding stage, but even I (who was one of the more vocal people pronouncing it's silliness on this forum) finally figured what the hell and am running a few hundred a month of my slush expenditures through there in the fantasty hope that it works. If you can afford to give it a try for a few months without hurting the rest of your credit building process, might be worth trying for some limited period of time.

Might be best to call in and speak to a credit analyst about it.

The reason for the decline was "legals" referring to the judgement on my file from three years prior. The judgement was not AMEX but another party. No other reasons were given.

I've seen Amex approvals where the applicant had a paid judgement of around 5 years, but not as recent as 3.

I had a AMEX green that was closed and eventually paid off back in like 2007-2008 AND I had a judgement that is showing unpaid because the creditor hasn't filed to update it, but the collection company for the judgment updated their entry on my report to paid. The judgement was from 2008. I got approved for my Zync in march 2011....but the judegment/collection was for eviction after I lost my job not a credit card so maybe that had something to do with it?

I'm not sure, but Amex decisions are predicated more on their internal proprietary models than what's on the CRAs. Perhaps, since you were a former cardmember, they have some spending data on you? Or, they felt you showed character in making reparations? I have no idea, but I'd imagine your being a former cardmember honoring his/her debt to them may play a factor.
