Oldest Card?

How old is the oldest card in your wallet? In other words, how old is the oldest card that you use frequently? It doesn't have to be your daily card, but not a card that you sock drawer for 6 months at a time either.

Comparatively, I'm very new to the credit world but it seems like there's always some new and improved card that makes an older version less desirable (AMEX BCE/BCP compared to Blue, for example).

I know that one of the important factors to credit scoring is your AAoA, so I'm wondering what is a reasonable amount of time to go without a new app.

For me the oldest card I use frequently is from July 2011, Chase Freedom.

Edit: It occured to me I should suggest a format

1. Name of CCC + specific card

2. Age of account

3. Why you use it

4. How long since your last app, how long until your next app, and what you think is a reasonable time frame between apps

Oldest card(s) are American Express: Platinum Blue, and Delta Gold 06/96, 02/96 ,and 07/96 respectively.

Wow, I was in elementary school in 96. The only credit I wanted was extra credit at school.

Blue comes out every so often for MR points, Delta for miles for August honeymoon, and the Platinum was JUST upgraded from Green to take advantage of the benefits and bonus 25k MR points.

2 Years next month

I use it for the rotating rewards.

I applied for a BofA Cash Rewards Platinum Visa on 1/13/2012.

I am actually planning on getting the AMEX BCP/BCE and then waiting till I enter graduate school before applying for a charge card from Amex. I should have a pretty good track record by that time and a much more lucrative career

Cool. I'm going to track my grocery/gas spending habits and try not to app for anything until 2013. If I spend enough to justify BCP over BCE, I'll try to PC in February 2013

Closed an Amex acc.(Delta AMEX Gold) in good standing back in 1995(really don't know why,lol) . After paying off debt a little over 2yrs. ago,applied again, was approved and backdated to 3/95. Few mnths after that was preapproved for all charge cards and a revolver,Starwood Preferred.. Had trouble(so I thought) w/my apps going through for the charge card, so I app'd for the GREEN,ZYNC,GOLD and of course the Starwood. Next day while checking my e-mails @work was happy to see that I was approved for the Starwood Preferred. / the next day, I almost fell out of my chair, when I checked my e-mails an saw 3 messages from AMEX......Congratulating me for being approved for all three. Ended up closing the Zync;Delta Gold upgraded to Reserve,Gold Charge upgraded to Platinum(and yes I travel a lot,17 trips to Europe last year alone so the Platinum and Reserve really work for me),and have just held on to the clasic Green Charge. All backdated to 3/95. I use Amex Cards for ALL travel related expenses,my Pres. Plus MC for overseas purchases(more widely accepted and no foreign transaction fees) and for Concierge service(I find that my PresPlus World Elite MC has better Concierge services than Amex,esp. in Europe).

Mine is Citi Dividend student Visa, opened 09/2008. Too bad I'm gonna sock drawer it soon in favor of the Freedom, it'll be missed.

My oldest card is about to have its first birthday in March. GEMB

My second oldest card isn't going to have a very happy birthday. My Cap One is getting canceled before the AF hits.

The oldest card I have that I use more than 1-2x/month is my BR Visa. It's only been open since October 2011. I won't use it as much now that I have Chase Freedom, but I like it because I buy a lot of clothes at BR for work.

My oldest card (now closed) was my Bank of America Alaska Airlines card, opened in August 2002. It was my only card for a very long time.

My oldest card is my BofA Visa signature which I got back in 2002. It originally was a Visa Platinum, but then was converted after my original card (Banking Benefits) was discontinued. I use it to pay for monthly subscriptions just to keep the account active, but that's about it.

I only apply for new credit every few years or so, and only when I need something different because my life has changed. I just turned 30 a few months ago, so I figure I can be patient in my applications. Time is on my side.

Would have been my AmEx Platinum (1978) if you mean a major card, but I closed that when they increased the AF from $300, so... Macy's store card 1977-78 based on my credit report, but the Macy's card actually used to be a Hecht Company card which originally was a "Central Charge Card" from 1970.

My oldest was AMEX green from 1987, was only able to BD to 1989 (couldn't read the card, found other card with less worn date later). Welcome to the AMEX "senior center"

Yes, just oops When I got the invite for some reason I mistook it for an offer from Cap1 (THIS is where I learned to research any card BEFORE applying LOL, well, in this case, even accepting....). The logo's look nearly exact, being I got an offer from each about the same time I think I thought it was 2 different cards from Cap 1 (the Credit One offering a better line, which turned out to be a bit different than expected lol). Luckily that mistake caused me to warn others as well as avoid a Merrick offer. Live and learn

My oldest, Amex 1979. Green to Gold then closed after a few years as I got tired of the AF.

Next, USAA Plat MC, opened the first year they started offering the card, I think 2002 or 2003. Some one may correct me on that.

In between, numerous cards that I closed as I paid them off. I was not smart with my spending at that time. No lates, no baddies, nothing. Perfect payment record.
