Applying for Plat/Revolver as 1st Amex?

Has anyone had any experience with this? Due to possible upcoming changes with the Chase CO PP, I was considering applying for the Amex plat and perhaps SPG.

How difficult is it to be accepted for these cards if they're your first with Amex? Would it be better off to apply for another Amex product first, and then go for these as additional cards?

I don't know anything about AmEx but I would imagine with those scores you would get approved for any card you want.

given your scores, unless you worked a miracle or have listed fako's or have some other badies that are getting ignored by your credit scores listed i don't see you have problems getting in with AMEX at some level.

I got an AMEX blue (revolver), and my highest score is 710 at the time, and zync the following month. Some here have gotten Zync with 650 scores.

AMEX wants no missed payments for several years. Chargeoff''s are very bad. They will accept several collections if they are 3-4 years old. Must have multiple credit tradelines, With at least 1 year of credit experience. My AAoA is only 1 year.

If those are your scores in your sig then you have nothing to worry about as long as you have no derogs ane excessive inquiries on your report. Go ahead and apply and I bet you'll get instant approval.

With your scores and other info I read elsewhere, I don't think you'd have much of a problem being approved for either. IMHO

In all honesty, Amex has their own "twisted" logic, so I cannot give you a definite answer. However, based on the few details about your credit profile, I would be extremely surprised if you don't get at least the SPG. I would suggest that you apply for both Plat and SPG, as it would most likely result in one inquire. I would personally set up two tab on my internet browser and submit them within second of each other .

Given that you are a scholar ,

I am pretty sure your well aware that if you get denied there always more opportunities to present your case, i.e. backdoor number, manual review and etc. I would even go as far as settling for a Amex Gold/Green card and requesting a PC before the AF kicks in. That way, not only are you building a relationship with Amex but you save yourself an annual fee.

Just my two cents....

With your info, scores, income and conservative list of prime cards; your best off to apply for what you actually want. I agree with others above and GBP at to applying for both on the same day. If the benefits of the platinum aren't important to you in that you could use them right away, and we're missing something that you think would lower your chances for the Platinum, you could get gold then PC it in 13 months of good history with them.

PS, AMEX tends to like profiles like yours very much. IMHO I'd suggest just applying for the ones you actually want and you meet the guidelines for.

Well former scholar, I'm a university administrator these days... I got tired of making lecture slides, preparing articles and reading exam papers into the wee-hours of the morning, so I'm happy with a 9-5 job now. It's so much less stressful and the work-life balance is so much better.

It will probably be another month or two before I pull the trigger on anything, since I want to be 100% sure before I do. I only apply for credit when I need it, and up until now I've only done it every 4-5 years. It somewhat bugs me that I need to do it twice within 12 months.

CS800 - maybe you should try for the palladium. I don't need another inq with Chase right now, especially if they come out with something decent to replace the CO PP with. You on the other hand...

No sweat. I got a plat recently and my scores are a bit lower. Instant approval. AF is a bit steep but if you travel a lot it's worth it. It's my only Amex card.

With just 2 credit cards, an AAoA of slightly over 2 years with longest one being 5 years, and a credit line of $2600 between the 2, at 23 years old, my first AmEx I applied for was a BCE, and it was approved.

I think you can get approved for Amex Platinum. My first card wasn't Amex Platinum. They offered me pre-approval upgrade for Platinum after a year of Gold Card history. I didn't accept because I don't travel enough.

Approval for AmEx Platinum is much easier than any of their revolvers.

I think you should be approved for both, but as many have observed, AmEx gives much more weight to their internal scoring than with Ficos.

I was approved for a BCP as my first amex with scores much lower than your and with two unpaid collections showing, I think you'll be fine.

I would be very surprised if you were denied for either one of these.

As others have suggested, apply for both at the same time, you might get one inquiry for two cards.

Just reiterating what has been said - you should apply for the products you want especially with your credit history/scores. They may have you call in to verify some income information, etc. but I see no reason you would be outright denied. Just make sure you can use enough benefits of the Platinum to justify the steep AF.
