First Premier allows a CLI once annually, its a SP but it costs you 25% of whatever the increase is. They also have a cap, I believe $250, on what they will give you. So, if you get the max CLI, you are paying them $63 for th benefit of them giving you more credit. On top of that, you're most likely paying a MF and AF.

So I got a letter in the mail today from Centennial credit card issued by First Premier stating they can't approve my CLI due to:

"Your account hasn't been open for a sufficient time period"

How much time is sufficient for them?

I've had them for about 1 year already.

Does anyone know if they do a hard pull or even check your cc score for CLI's?

I haven't received a credit alert for new inquiries from them.

How soon should I request a CLI again?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how long it takes for them to consider your membership with them as an account holder sufficient. But one piece of advice I will give to you is to look for your credit profile to grow elsewhere. First Premier is a rip off. They are good to get your credit back re-established if "Like me" you were at some point desperate to take whatever major credit card anyone would offer just to get started. Had I known then, what I know now, I would've gotten a secured card through my credit union and later worked on getting an unsecured card once the 1 year mark was up. Just my thoughts.

I was hesitant about getting a secured card they offered me and declined. Then I tried about 6 months later and approved for for an unsecured card which I jumped at the chance. This was my first rebuilder card which then led to Orchard and Credit One to accept me.

Through out the years no retail store wanted to approve me and now they did. All my retail cards are about 2-3 weeks. I was on an application frenzy. I know I know I went a little crazy and applied for like 10 cc but I was instantly approved for about 5 retail cards in 1 day and still awaiting response from the others. I'm not planning on getting new credit cards within 1-2 yrs.

My original question: Do they do a hard pull for a CLI??

Thanks again!

I understand the sense of "loyalty" you have, but it misguided. They didn't extend credit because they felt bad for you or believed in you. They did it because it was financially beneficial to you. Most of us have had to utilize starter or rebuilder cards for obvious reasons. But you have to be able to recognize when you have maximized the benefits they can offer you. I agree that you need at least one prime card (visa) vs all of those store cards, but I think Cap one would provide you what you need without raping you in fees. It's counterproductive to your goals. As far as a cli, I believe it's soft....good luck!

@Anonymous wrote:

Hi everyone & Thanks!!!

I have heard many bad comments about First Premier but they gave me a chance when no one else would approve me.
After I reread your post, I see that you do have other visa/ mc in your wallet. So, I wouldn't even try to cli with them. It's a total waste of your money. If you are dying to keep it and pay an AF, fine....but I would concentrate on the other cards for cli's. Just my opinion!

I agree with what everybody else has said. I went from a bankruptcy to semi decent scores with only ONE credit card- a Capone card. I didn't get my other card (which is actually a Carecredit card and not really a typical credit card) until three years after my first one. I pay an annual fee of $19.00 on my Capital One and that card serves me just fine. I really don't think you need to pay through your nose to rebuild your credit, esp when you currently have so many other options. I would cancel the FP card before another annual fee hits.

@Anonymous wrote:
After I reread your post, I see that you do have other visa/ mc in your wallet. So, I wouldn't even try to cli with them. It's a total waste of your money. If you are dying to keep it and pay an AF, fine....but I would concentrate on the other cards for cli's. Just my opinion!

+1

With other Visa/MC in wallet this card needs to be closed, it's served it's purpose.

A sufficient amount of time is considered 13 months as per the information included with your First Premier Card. Also were you aware that a 25% fee is calculated for each 100$ credit limit increase. I have the same card for 5 months now. Prior I had no credit cards, and only 2 small dings left( mostly med bills that slip through the Crack) I am going to garden for about 4 months to total of one year then get a credit builder loan from a credit union and possibly a card from my bank Chase. You should do the same then when you have a couple of cc under your belt shake them like the black plague.
