Gap store card Upgrade - HP or SP?

Logged onto my GEMB/GECRB Gap account earlier and was presented with an offer to upgrade my store card to a Visa card.

Does anyone know if this would be a HP or SP? Experience?

Sorta related - do all GECRB CLI requests incur a SP or do some incur HP?

I updgraded mine in December. No hard pull only soft and then after the upgrade I went from a 650 CL to 2000 CL. The only thing is they close the old Gap account and open a new account Gap Visa which can affect your AAoA. This is the only downside. I went for it though because I love my Gap Visa.

New account you say? In that case, I think I'll pass. AAoA is already lower than I would like!

I opened a Banana Republic store card in 3/2011. After about 7 months, I received an invitation to apply for the Banana Republic Visa. I did and there was no HP. It does automatically close the store account and open a new account though, as previously posted. It hurt my AAoA, but it's also my highest CL.

CLIs have always been SPs for me with them.

Keep in mind that just because your original store account was closed, you keep the history as an account in good standing for what is it 10 years? So with that said adding a new account but keeping history on a closed account might only result in a small ding is AAOA. Again this is a choice you would have to make. I already have a really really low AAOA so I didn't blink when the upgrade came my way. I've been enjoying my Gap Visa and its 2000 CL for a while now. It also help with overall UTL having an additional amount of 2000.

Always true. No HP to convert. You do have to get the offer though. If you call in requesting one, they may HP you. Not sure about that option as I was invited after having the card for like 5 months. I upgraded and no HP. There is also no HP for CLIs at the present time.

Do it! It's only a soft pull. And it will come with a nice CL. The new account won't kill your AAoA...at least that's my opinion.
