Places that ONLY accept Amex

I went to NYC last weekend and we ended up eating at a place that only accepts Amex CCs. Of course, they do not tell you until you've already waited and then are seated. Although going to an ATM wouldn't have been out of the question (I rarely carry cash), it was much more convenient having an Amex on us.

I just glanced at their site and I don't see it on there either. This is the second restaurant I've been to that only accepts Amex.

Any others experience places that only accept Amex CCs?

Costco and Neiman Marcus only accept Amex...

Costco accepts Debits cards only if you use your pin.

I can recall that I have seen any places like this. So no Visa or MC at all ? Was this a higher~end restaurant or like a small mom & pop place ?

Maybe the restaurant gets a discounted fee for only taking american express.....

I don't shop at either of those places so didn't know (read about Costco now that I think about it).

The first time I went to the Charles St. one, all 4 us did not have an Amex so one of us had to go to the ATM down the street = inconvenient.

There aren't a whole lotta places that take Amex only, I'm sure of that.

i've been to the jekyll and hyde club... great food... i didnt pay with a card so i didnt notice they only take amex >_< how weird.

I didn't know either. We waited near the bar until they had a table for us. After we were seated, the waiter greeted us and told us then.

The local Dairy Queen I go to has a sign up that asks people who's order is less than $10 to pay with cash or Amex.

The State of Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles does not accept VISA, but only MC and AMEX.

Wow, that's unusual! I wonder why the decided to limit their payment options so much?

i am wondering if a place that only takes AMEX have a higher clientele than lets say visa or M/C...because lets face it we all know amex is very wiered when it picks its clients/customers

There's a Chinese fusion restaurant that operates 5 locations in NJ and NY that only accepts Amex or cash. And there's Brooklyn Pizza which I know of 2 locations that remains cash only.

yea theres a pizza place i go to sometimes thats cash only maybe its the same one

I am only guessing, but I would think it may have to do with the transaction fees that the CC's charge. Maybe VISA/MC are more expensive to accept.
