Capital One Credit Steps Questions?

Does anyone know if there is a limit on how many "steps" your Capital One account takes? I started off with a small limit of $500 and was told that the next increase would be $750, does anyone know what happens after that? I read some older posts about the credit steps, but does anyone know from first hand experience how the program really works?

There typically is a limit. It seems like from what I've read, most increases stop around $750-$1000. You need to follow the conditions specified in your letter i.e use your card, pay your bill on time.

I started off with a $300 limit, it went up to $500, then $1500 and then $2500. My last increase was over two years ago and I don't think I'm ever going to get one. I think I got really luck though cause most people say that their limits never really go above $750.

When I had my Cap1 card, it was in the credit steps, was 500 initially and after the 6th statement it went to 750, and it sat there for two years and I closed the account.

Most Cap1 cardholders will never see another CLI after you reach the 750, there are exceptions of course, but I would not hold my breath.

Thanks daisydvm, I have heard that the steps have changed, and being that you got your last increase two years ago, I wonder if the same rules still apply? When I call, the reps never give me the same answer. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. I have used the card, and I always pay the bill, so I know I should be set for an increase soon. Thanks again!

Thanks Mustanglvr2006, that's no good! I have heard that there are 2 increases. I know everyone is different, case-by-case situations, and that some people get higher increases and more than one or two, I just wish CapOne was able to bottom line the program from me instead of giving me different information. I guess all I can do is wait and see.

Most people never receive two steps. Usually it's one step. There are exceptions but it is not the norm. I got my first Cap1 card Feb 2011 with a 300CL. At six months they upped it to 500CL. I just past the year mark but did not receive a second step.

The whole purpose of my Cap1 cards is to get me into primeville. Cap1 rebuilders are generally low-limit cards.

I think there is actually 2 steps if you play by their rules.

If you go to their website and click on the Statements and Documents tab. Then click on the documents tab you should see your credit steps info there.

It's typically 2. Mine only had 1. But I've gotten 1 non steps auto CLI from capone. Capone tells their reps next to nothing about their system on their non prime cards. It's all automated.

There are different version of the credit steps program. You need to read your letter to see which one Cap1 has picked for you. Some have one CLI, some have multiple CLIs.

I actually didn't recieve a letter for mine.

I didn't either but you can usually find it online by doing what I wrote above.
