Best Gas Card Now That Discover/Chase ended

Since Discover's More and Chase's Freedom gas cashback promotion is over, what card is good for gas now??

My car is rather thirsty and I would love to see what other otpions I have for pumping gas.

AMEX BCE and Penfed are good choices.

Penfed is 5% with no spending caps, bofa has 3% cash back on gas and 10% of the cashback when you deposit it to your bofa checking account

In my view, the best "pure" gas card would be the Pen Fed Rewards Visa and the Fort Knox Platinum.

Both are 5% year round, no annual fee, and offer bonus in other categories. The Pen Fed offers 3% in supermarkets and 1% on all other spend. The Fort Knox offers 1.25% on everything else.

Are you talking about the Pen Fed Platinum Rewards or the Pen Fed Platinum Cash Rewards card? The cash rewards offers 5% on gas, and 0.25% on everything else according to the website.

BoA Cash Rewards gives 3% back on gas and 2% back on groceries year round, but with a quarterly max ($1500/quarter for both combined I think).

I have to agree with Amex Costco I use my card strictly for gas and Costco purchases.

Just wanted to add that the 5/3/1 Penfed card (the points based one) is not "cash back" in the direct sense. You can use points to redeem for gift cards. B/c you're getting gift cards instead of cash back that money cannot be respent to earn additional cash back, if that makes sense.

If you want a true 5% cash back gas card with no limits then the 5/0.25 Penfed card is the way to go. Just don't use it for anything other than gas.

If you want a combination cash back card with no limits then Amex BCP ranks high. It's a versatile card with 6% on groceries, 3% gas and department stores so you can use it at a lot of places.

The other cards mentioned have limits on how much gas you can buy under the bonus:

BofA 321 has $1500 cap each quarter on gas and groceries

Amex Costco has $3000 cap each year on gas

So if you buy a lot of gas the last 2 should be further down on your list.

I would imagine the Fort Knox CU is easier to get vs. PENFED? I had no idea it offered 1.25% on everything else though - that's GREAT these days!

Yeah, I'd think so. PenFed appears to be higher requirements than most CUs. But, they sure do have great cards!

Even if you don't qualify for the best gasoline rewards cards, you may find this website useful:

and you will be able to use your favorite card at the gas stations that are open to the public.

The reasoning is:

1.) Ethanol has a lower ignition temperature, so ethanol-free gasoline results in higher MPG.

2.) With ethanol-free gasoline, you end up with less water in your gas tank.

3.) Ethanol-free gasoline is not harmful to small engines, such as those in lawn mowers.

I thought this was the BCE?? Whats the difference between the 2?

The BCE has no annual fee, hence the lower rewards at 3% Supermarket, and 2% Gas.

The BCP has a $75 annual fee, but has a higher rewards structure at 6% Supermarket and 3% Gas.

+1 - for sure!

I was using my Freedom this past quarter but now it is back to PenFed.

Love those statement credits each month, especially now that gas is once again going up at an uncontrollable rate!
