Best Buy - "No possibility of CLI"?

Hi,

I have a Best Buy MC as well as the store card.

I have had the MC for about 4 years, and the store card for a bit over 2 years.

Both are low limit cards, the MC is $650 and the Store is $500.

Both have been maxed and paid off multiple times, never a late.

I tried to get a CLI on the store card last year and was told that the tier that I am in will NEVER be eligible for a CLI!!! Seriously?

My credit score have increased to a decent level, my DTI is very good, and outside of lates on a student loan in 2007 my reports are clean.

current scores are EX: 679, EQ 668, TU 698 and I am expecting these score to bump 15 or 20 more points higher when my cards all report next cycle as I went on a paying spree and have significantly lowered my utilization across all open lines.

What is the deal with the best Buy card? I want to use the card, but this is now my lowest card (besides the $200 target card that I have had since 2008 with no CLI ever)

I can't use the best buy card to buy anything because everyting that I would go to best buy for cost much more than my limit.

Has anyone ever heard of Best Buy telling customers that they will NEVER be eligible for a CLI? this sounds very strange to me.

Why would they do that? Why even bother giving me a card in the first place?

Is there a way to get a CLI? I am looking for at least $2k with them in order for it to be of any use

Sounds like you got a plan B card, which are not eligible for CLI's. The best thing to do is close out and reapply if you can afford the new acct. and INQ.

I just went to my online account for the store card and put in my income and it said I was eligible for an increase to $1300 from $800. Not bad I guess. I hope that is a soft pull?

I have only heard of one person who was able to get a CLI on his Tier B card. And it was actually changed to a Tier A. But that's YMMV and almost never happens you will need to get really lucky and speak to a supervisor. Believe me I tried everything on my BB card to no avail eventually I just closed it.

Hopefully it's a soft pull, I have requested a CLI twice on my MC and I got an increase with a SP the first time, and was denied with a hard pull on EQ the second.

It's a soft pull. I believe the plan b card is the MasterCard with low limits and a AF. Store card which is not branded has no AF with really good increases.

Plan B card can be either a MC or the store card. AFAIK if your APR is above 25.24% and your limit is $750 or lower it is likely you have the plan B card (YMMV)

I would recommend freezing your reports, that way HP's are always out of the question unless you authorize it.

I don't believe thats possible. I think the only option is to close/reapp.

I'll try, will let you know if it possible. Basically this store card just no use for me......

Why not just apply for the MC then? I don't think that you have to close the store card, I have both the store card and the MC.
But I am on plan B.

If I'm not mistaken HSBC with Best Buy does not allow application to MC anymore... You apply for Store Card and if you don't qualify you will be offere the MC with either $39 or $79 AF I believe it is. Limit probably starting at either $300 or $500.

Many years ago DW wanted to make a major purchase at Home Depot so the store got her CL increased for the purchase. If you haven't done so I would try that route, Worth a shot.
