Capital One Account Change-Success!

So I decided to close my Capital One Platinum account with AF this morning. I had recently acquired the Amex BCE and USAA World Mastercard, so the old Cap One was expendable.

I spoke to the rep and he asked me why I wanted to close my account. I told him that I didn't want an AF and I wanted rewards, something this card did not have.

He immediately told me that he was showing that I was eligible for an account change to the Capital One Venture One card. I told him that is good news, however I did not want a hard pull on the account in order to do this.

He informed me that no credit pull needed to be done and I could keep my same number and account opened date.

My new card will be here in 7 days.

So yes people, an account change is possible with Capital One and I can't express enough how awesome these guys are.

+1 congrats! I was able to do the same earlier this year. Funny, I still haven't used the VentureOne card. It has been in the sock drawer since receiving it.

Veture is the blue one without any AF. VentureOne is yellow.

Thats crazy..... I have had the platinum card for 10 years with the same limit of 500$ since I applied. I have called numerous times to switch and i always get the same answer, im sorry. It's just sad i cant close it because they have me by the balls with the length of the account I have with them.

What isyour credit limit on this card ? Did you use it heavily or lightly ?

well i called the backdoor for senior account managers and they didn't do it for me.

Maybe the password is "I want to close my account" but couldnt bring myself to do it. lol

On the Cap One website (when you log in to your account) you can check to see if your account is eligible for any upgrades, promotions, etc. I wonder if the OP had checked that prior to calling if that would have shown that he/she was eligibile for an upgrade to a different card or something like that.

In any case, congrats! Personally, I'm endlessly dreaming about PC'ing my Sony Card to a non-cobranded card (I know that's difficult/unlikely).

So, of course I called and asked...

I learned that if your account isn't at least one year old, don't bother.

However, Peggy did tell me that my account looked "wonderful" and that I should certainly be able to upgrade my account after my one year anniversary...which is approximately 30 June 2012.

My limit is $5,500. My average utlization is $1,500 a month.

Right before I made the call, I hit the bloody button again and guess what? It said the usual. No offers available.

Luckily, the rep I spoke to has a different screen!

Congrats. How long have you had your acct? I called earlier this week and told them that I wanted to close my acct. They would not waive the AF (well only 1/2 of it). They would not CLI. The rep told me that I did NOT qualify for any upgrade, etc. and she was more than happy to comply with my request and close my acct. Maybe you just got someone who actually wanted to keep a customer.
