I know that when I looked at whogavemecredit.com those that were approved with a bk they said their bk was three years old and older. I don't know of anyone with a ge backed card that got approved withine two years of a bk. I wish I would have known this before I wasted two inquiries on Walmart.

FWIW, underwriting criteria change all the time. Literally, I've seen lending underwriting criteria change weekly at places I've worked, so blanket assumptions on any particular lender's current profile can be substantially off. I suspect based on what was posted here, that probably the 2 years post BK is accurate... it sort of makes sense in today's economic climate: the wheels came off in 2007, with a bunch of issues between that and 2010. 2 years have mostly passed since that time (or soon will be), and any BK post that may be something else entirely.

I'm not saying recent BK's aren't perfectly fine people: I post my scores in my sig, I'm obviously no angel, I'm just trying to suggest what lenders might be thinking from that criteria. Of course it may be even more simple: 2 years of good credit history is a non-trivial predictor of future good behavior in today's society.

Hi All -

Just wanted to let everyone know about my situation. My BK7 discharged in 07/2012. A JCPenney card was included in that. After discharge, GE did not update that account as "included in bankruptcy." So, I disputed it, and they removed it completely from all 3 credit files. In 02/2013, I applied for the Walmart credit card and was declined due to BK. At that point, nothing negative from GE was reporting on my credit files. I decided to wait a year post-discharge to try again. I just applied 09/13/2013 and was approved for $1200. So, it was 14 months post-discharge and I was approved. I also had GE in my bankruptcy, although it was not reporting on my credit files. Don't know if that made a difference or not. Anyway, good luck to everyone! There's always hope!

My bankruptcy was discharged in February 2012 and I waited one year before applying for a Walmart card. I applied earlier this year for a Walmart card and was approved for $300.00. My credit line was increased to $900.00 after a few months. I always pay in full now. I do like FICO score.

I guess a GE approval varies app to app.
