Freeze bureau reports

I really need to know how to freeze the bureaus from accepting any apps from me. Can someone tell me....pretty please???

id like to know more about it too, last time i saw here at MyFico an ad about freezing but It didnt say which bureau its for....

Went to Transunion first. Believe it's called a security freeze (what everyone is doing here). For Texas, it costs $10 to put on and $10 to take off. That sucks.

I did mine by mail. 10 per bureau.. I believe you can pay a 10 dollar fee to lift it for a period of time; like a month when you know you want a loan or to apply.

Well, that's kinda the whole point isn't it? If someone is trying to restrain their app urge, maybe the thought of giving ten bucks to a credit bureau will slow them down a bit.

In many states the fee is waived if you have a documented case of CC fraud or attempted fraud, ID theft, etc.

I froze mine after my app spree in late december and Jan. I spent $20 last month to unlock TU and EQ. I ended up with only 1 CLI but 3 more new accounts

I will be unlocking them probably in the next 30-60 to confirm that I really did get the baddies off my reports, but I'm worried about leaving them open if baddies gone for old collections popping up or something, we shall see.

Why not save your money and just not apply for credit?

It's not that hard to resist. You just don't apply.

As I like to say, lets handle one thing at a time, and telling someone like me not to apply is like telling an alcoholic "Just don't drink!" Which was also me, but I'm 25 days Sober, Ill get to the not applying in a month or two!

What I like to do to curb any urge, without paying to freeze that is, is to let a higher balance carry past the statement date so that it reports. Having a higher utilization makes me think about it for a month until my next statement date. I pay after the statement cuts in full so I don't have to worry about interest but I know I won't app for something if I'm not in an optimal place in my utilization. Maybe that will help and save you some cash.
