Thanks to a couple of suggestions to sign up with this credit union, I did. Bad news is, the rep I spoke with said since the banks are in such trouble, they are tightening their belts, ALOT. She asked my scores and told me not to even think of applying for a credit card or mortgage until my scores are atleast 720. Good news is, they have alot of other money saving goodies. (Like pulling and checking my credit reports and scores!! No more TC for me)

Think I will just open a savings for now and send them some money every month. I've finished app-ing for atleast a year. I don't even want to know how many inquiry's I have running around. Now, I will just let time take over.

DH is military, yes. I was able to get my own number off of his membership. Signed him up, then I called and gave them his number and told them I wanted to be a member too. So, after some questions, she had me all set up. She did ask if my parents were military and if they ever used USAA. I know my father was in the AF, but he is dealing with so many other things right now, I am not about to bother him to see what CU's he ever used. She understood. But I guess it is good to know if you have/had a parent in the military, you may still be able to apply that way.

I dont know if having a parent that served on active duty and gotten out of the service is enough. They either had to have the account active while on active duty or retired from the service with 20 years and even then there is a time limit. I think they will loosen the standards for those who have husbands or wives killed while on active duty, but this bank isnt for the general public. I was watching the rest of my unit come back from afghanistan today, and seeing the expression on their faces was enough to remind me why this bank is such an exclusive club. The active military endures more than the average person, so it is a perk that is worth reserving for the miltary.

To Stef,

I started out with a checking and Savings account about two years ago, and just now have my credit to where I have gotten all their credit cards. It really is a good program and worth sticking with..

Stpn2me

I think she was trying to get to the point to see if my father had been a member. It didn't really matter anyway since DH is in the Army.

Oh, we definitely plan on staying. They can hold my money while I build my scores up a bit higher. When the car insurance comes time to be re-newed, I do plan on calling them first.

Boscoe... The rep said they had a 3 n 1 credit score and monitoring service. I typed in the search box for it, but it only gives a score and report for EX and it's 5.50 a month. For one report and score, a fako of course, it's still cheaper. I need to call and ask about the 3 n 1.

I so glad you're with them, and you'll find that the longer you're a member, the less they care about your scores.

I knew about their EX-only service, but I didn't know that they had a three-in-one as well. If you find out anything, can you post back here, pls? thanks!

And I didn't realize that your DH is in line to go to Afghanistan. Maybe by 2010, things will be different.

Thanks Hauling. I think I will feel at home with this CU. The rep was very helpful. She asked me if I monitored my scores, and asked where, I told her here. Well, she said she could save money with the 3 n1 they have. I will call tomorrow and ask if she didn't maybe make a mistake. I know she clearly told me all three bureaus and scores for each and I want to say the price was around 14-15 bucks. She was talking a bit fast for me to keep up, though. Car insurance, credit cards, mortgages....I have not really even checked out the web-site completely. No more app-ing for me for awhile anyway. Need to get rid of inquiry's and let these new accounts age some.

I saw on the news where the US is NOT pulling any troops out of Afghanistan for many years to come. They asked for aide, and well, there we are. I forget what country was refusing to aide them. Of course we are at everyone's beck and call.

Thanks! I am hoping he doesn't have to go. He said he'd volunteer to go back to Iraq first. The idea of him being on foot in massive amounts of land mines terrifies him. Me too!

Well,

I dont know if I would ask for Iraq, afghanistan was WAY better than iraq, in my personal opinion. It does look like afghanistan is going to be a long lasting duty station.

In reference to the car insurance, I used to have nationwide, and because of an accident I had in 2001 where a death occured, my rates were very high. Your record was supposed to be purged of that record and since that time I could not get that insurance. The time frame has lapsed and I was able to get underwritten by USAA and they have cut my rates in half. It is absolutly the best insurance I have ever gotten, I highly recommend it...

Stpn2me

Here's the results after calling another Rep. You have to sign up for the credit check monitoring with EX and once you sign up with it, it gives you the option to add the other 2 bureau's. The total price for all 3 and fako's is 24.95 a month. Still cheaper than TC.

Now, does this daily report show new stuff, or is it the same report for the month? EQ is dragging their feet and I want something off that was supposed to be removed in October. I don't want to have to keep paying for reports if I don't have to. I think the latest dispute is to be "resolved" by the 25th of this month.
