Amex question

I have a zync, but really would rather have a gold. Tried to app, twice, and denied both times. DW got a preselected offer for gold a few days ago. I helped her through the process and she was approved...needless to say I'm a little jealous. Will it help if I'm added as an AU? What if I cancelled my zync, added as an AU for 6 months, then reapply as a nonmember? I really feel the zync is holding me back. Plus this way I would still be able to back date my next card. Thoughts?

The real question is what are the reasons for the denial? I don't think terminating your relationship with amex in favor of being an AU is going to increase your chances

How long have you had zync? At 13 months you can do pc change I believe. Much better to be in Amex family if you want another Amex. Having zync means more than au on another's gold IMHO. Guessing your listed scores aren't accurate. What score was quoted on your denials. Their charge cards aren't too hard to get. Why the rush for gold?

No they are accurate. Amex just thinks I haven't had the zync long enough, and too many recent inq's. My card just hit the 6 month mark.

I'd keep my relationship with Amex and let it season a little longer; say 7 more months.

Then as the other poster advised, I would do a product change to the Gold or you can always apply for the Gold then.

Good luck

It can only help you to get a Gold if you establish a postive history w/Amex.

All future Amex will be backdated to your first Amex year and the month of your new card app. So, if your first Amex was in March 2010 and your next Amex is in Jan 2013, it will automatically be backdated to Jan 2010 (which is actually BEFORE your first Amex!). That's why a lot of people here get additional Amex at the beginning of the year -- so they can get a full year of backdating.

Even if you close all Amex accts., any new ones would be backdated. You would want to keep your acct info though, so you don't have the same problems others here have had. (But really, closing it will NOT help you!)

What kind of things in your credit file and aaoa etc? Lots of au accounts? With those scores, you should have had no problems. Ive gotten 3 Amex in last 6 months inccluding 2 revolvers with lower score and like 10 inquiries on my experian in same period. Something does smell right. What fico on your denial letters?

You've had luck with Amex, while I've had luck with chase. Thanks for the rest of the replys. I guess I will just sit on it for a few months.

Seems pretty logical on their denials.

To little history with them and to many inq's for their liking.

Seems like, as I've noticed Amex does, they provided you a direct route on how to obtain future Amex cards.
