In my experience with Citi, they report the balance on your statement. So if you want a $0 balance, pay off your card in full the day before your statement end date.

Ok, my due date is jun 17, the next statement date is jun 21. I thought CC reported after the statement closed usually about a week or so before the due date. I called citi to get some clarification but the CSR couldnt help me in any way. So do they actually report after your due date? Monica

You're asking when they report, but I assume what you are really after is what they report. The balance on your bill is what gets reported. It might be a couple days after your statement closes when they send that to the CRAs, and then each CRA has their own processing time for how long it takes them to update information.

I'd say it depends on the creditor after all. I opened two new accounts with Chase and BofA and they both reported a few days after opening the account (even before receiving the card!).

So, some companies do report after the due date? I have Amex which reports a week or so before the due date. It reports on the third so I usually PIF by the third. My legacy is the same way, it reports a week or so before the actual due date. Monica

Monica

When they report isn't that important. What they report is important. Regardless of when they send the information, the vast majority of lenders report the statement balance. Amex is reporting your statement balance. I'm pretty sure the same is true for Citi. It doesn't matter when they are sending it in relation to your due date. They're still sending the statement balance. If you're trying to control what gets reported, you need to pay your balance down to the desired amount before your statement closes, i.e., before they print your bill.

I use TrueCredit monitoring and it states specifically the date that any credit account posts. It's been fairly consistent month to month too. I'm wondering if any other services give as much detail? TrueCredit uses TU.

TrueCredit currently shows my CITI cards reporting the Statement Closing date as the Reported Date. They don't show up in my report for about a week after they've been updated.
