Sears Credit Card SHOCKED!

So I went to Sears today because I need to purchase new lawn and garden equipement and Sears is having a big sale. The sales rep explained that I could get 5% off instantly or 12 months no interest if I used a Sears card. I explained that Citi and I don't get along since my BK and would most likely be a wasted inquiry. The sales rep explained that Sears has relationships with Citi (Primary) and HSBC & GE (Secondary) and that the 0% was good no matter who approved me.

To my amazement CITI approved it with a $3,000 limit!

I never thought I would have a Citi card again after I took them down in the BK, but the Sears card is on the way.

Congrats! Wasn't aware Sears worked with all 3 credit issuers.

WOW, Lucky Sales Person you got the Citi Card because I don't think you would have looked at them as nice when they came back and said you didn't qualify for Citi but HSBC would like to offer you a Sears Solutions MasterCard for $300 Credit Line and $59/Annual Fee!

Sigh Im jealous... not for Sears but to be in with Citi!!! Last time I tried I was still Black Listed!

Ok, you BK with the creditor and now you requested another credit line? This just doesn't make since to why they would approve you. Do you fell like your going back down the same road that lead to your initial BK? I think the sales rep didn't care what you said, as long as they could get you the line of credit and sell the items. Just my 2 cents, congrats on rebuilding your credit!

It's the cost of being a bank I suppose to some extent

and once you file BK when it's 7, you can't file again for 7 years so they feel you are not a horrible risk to start doing business with you again... not all banks feel that way but some do.

I dont' think getting a credit card to get cash back or 0% or rebuild is really going to predict future of going down the road to bk again.

Not to harp but the way your statement reads, maybe not the intent is the OP should seek new credit. Maybe the cards was his/her downfall to a BK but you have to rebuild and seeking credit is the only way i know. I BKd Citi and AMEX and yes i went back to them as they were the cards i wanted.

You seem rude... and I highly doubt that if they felt as if they were going down the same road that lead to the initial BK that they would be applying for a sears card.. Just Sayin'

Precisely - just the fact of having a particular card issued by a particular bank does not mean that THEY are the reason that you had to file BK - I had "major" cards and was able to pay off and close them all but one - my BK was due to a job loss - not due to the credit card(s) that I had qualified for prior.

Also - I think that it is absolutely wonderful for the OP to be able to get that card - it has to be an excellent feeling - CONGRATS!!!

It was a combo of things that led to my BK.

Job loss, Divorce, adjustable rate mortgage I couldn't refi. Wasn't just the credit cards. As I said before, I never expected to be approved by Citi

Congrats I had a Sears card in college (in the 90's) that was charged off and I havent been able to get anything with Citi since...

I had the HSBC version of Sears MC about 5 years ago. 3 years at 300 CL with a 59 AF. After 3 years of no increase, I said bye bye... My shopping at Sears has dropped off drastically since then.

I had a Sears Gold MasterCard back in the day (2002) when it was issued by Sears National Bank...before Citi took them over. It's still in my sock drawer to remind me what a big mistake it was to let it CO.

It's all paid and off my report thank god but I do kinda wish I was in with Citi...but am glad I never really burned them directly and may have a fighting chance in 6 mos.

Sorry...I'm calling BS on this comment. By your logic, NO ONE who BKs should rebuild because, by your reasoning, rebuilding credit is "leading down the same road" that led to the BK (whatever that road may have been...you don't know because you weren't there and therefore have ZERO knowledge of the OP's situation).

In the future, try to avoid blanket judgments when you don't have the facts...just a suggestion.
