Change Delta Sky Amex to Starwood or Hilton Amex? Can you? Do you Still Get the bonus Miles?

I really dislike the platinum Delta Skymiles I opened it for the 20,000 miles I needed for a first class upgrade to Europe. I was wondering if you could hace a product change to a Starwoods Card or hilton Card.

My main concern is if you do, DO you still get the BONUS miles?

Can I ask why you would not go for a "product change" to the Blue card?

I changed my Delta to a Blue and I got to keep my bonus miles, not only that but I learned that you may turn your points from the Blue card INTO frequent flier miles. So not all is lost if you decide to do a product change.

To answer your question, I think you still keep to keep your miles because it is a separate rewards account that is opened with Delta.

IMHO- I think the Delta has a better rewards than either the Starwoods or Hilton.

I would not change to Blue unless I had a green - so you qualify for the Standard rewards instead of Express.

Amex told me- If you product change you WILL lose the FREE points but not the ones from purchases.

And the free points with the Delta are substantial.

You are so right about the BIG difference in rewards program you need to keep it open. i dont think they can pull the free points form Skymile they are not in their account you have a separate Skymiles account.

My question that nobody seems to be able to answer is if you get the NEW USSER WELCOME POINTS from either Starwood or Hilton?

I signed up for Chase Continental got the 20,000 and canceled a week later. They cannot do anything about if they are sitting in another account. They cannot got into one pass or sky miles and strip you of you're miles.

I still have an 18,000 balance in my Delta miles account.

If they can put the points in, I am sure they can take them out.

If you buy a $3000 TV on your Skymiles card, then return it after you get the miles credited, I'll bet you wouldn't get to keep those 3,000 miles.

I guess I'm the only person who actually wants a Hilton AMEX.

As a Diamond HHonors member, I would love to get all those points. HHonors has great benefits that I take advantage of all the time. Free breakfast, concierge floor, upgrades, free wireless internet, evening reception.

At present, I have enough points for a free week in Hawaii. Six free nights for 2 at a Hilton resort in Hawaii is only 175,000 points.

Plus, you can double-dip HHonor points and earn miles when you earn points. I get Skymiles when I stay at Hilton hotels.

Yep. If I ever app for an AMEX, it will definitely be the HHonors Amex...

Just applied for the Delta Sky Amex. Hope its a keeper.Vowed not to apply for anymore for 2008 but, could not resist plus, I fly Delta always except when travelling to the Caribbean.This will be my fourth card fr Amex.Been great so far.

I'm sorry but I dont thinks it's a keeper the annual fee docent get you nothing. The companion ticket is FULL of restrictions and thats pretty much all you get for $140 annual. You're better getting the Amex Gold card and trasfering the miles over to you're delta card. It's really the same excact thing dont waste you're $140 with skymiles. I dont mean to be negative but after the you get sign up bonus the card is pretty much worthless. I have the platinum and I dont find any of the other benefits usefull. Most benefits over lap with other AMEX card benefits. My opinion if this was you're lasp APP you should have saved it for something better.

Respectfully disagree. It's not the same exact thing, not even close.

For one thing, Skymiles cards have a double-miles feature on everyday purchases that other Amex cards don't have. For Delta flights, the rewards on the Skymiles card is 2x the rewards on the Gold card if you use it for gas, groceries, cell phone bills, home improvement, and the US Postal Service.

The Platinum Skymiles is overpriced, but the Gold version of Skymiles has no AF for the first year, and it's only $85 after that. And only $30 if you have an Amex charge card.

Want a free flight through Delta SkyChoice? You can either get the Gold Rewards Card and spend $50,000, or you can get a Gold Skymiles card, add an AU, and then spend $16,250 on everyday purchases.

Not the same thing at all.

Good points but the classification of EVERY DAY PURCHASES is threating a very thin line. And you need a RIDICOLOUS amount of miles to get free travel. If you dont live in Atlanta DELTA is worthless.

If you're 50 dollar gas tank and you're $10 dollar lunches help you get to 70,000 miles for a roundtrip from Chicago go for it. You can allot more bang for you're buck with a Gold Amex from Chicago. Or even a Citi AA Advantage Card.

I agree with you for the most part, but not everyone lives were you do. Thats exactly why I labeled my post in my opinion worthless and similar to Gold.

I live in Chicago (United HUB-American Airline HUB) to me Delta is is worhless becuse for my Regional travel I use Southwest for International travel varies but never Delta. Delta is an expensive option from Chicago you can find a better, cheaper flight 100% of time on another airline from CHICAGO.

In conclusion the Gold Card for me is similar and way better than Skymiles. I did sign up for 20,000 free miles then I product changed to Clear Points no Anual fee. You have to pay the charge card either way if you the GOOD rewards program.

The classification of everyday purchases is actually very reasonable. And the point is that there are at least some double-miles eligible purchases available. This is not the case on any of the Blue cards or any of the charge cards.

I am from Chicago. I lived there most of my life. I understand that Delta is almost never the best option for flights from Chicago. I did manage to find some good deals on Delta when I lived there, but most of the time I flew United or AA. But don't assume everywhere outside of Atlanta is like Chicago. I live in NYC now, and I can assure you, Delta is far from worthless here.

Actually those everyday purchases do add up. I'm on track to get my free flight in about 3 months, and have only had the card for about 3 months. So six months of everyday purchases and I'll be cashing in. It would have taken me more than a year of those same types of charges on the Gold Charge card.

Fair enough, but you didn't say it was worthless to you. You were advising another poster that it would be worthless for him, without knowing where he lives.

You also said it was exactly the same as Gold, not similar. That was the point I wanted to counter in my post.

I have never maintained that Skymiles is the right card for everybody. I have always said that it depends on how much you travel, where you live, and whether Delta is a viable option. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that you maintain that the Skymiles isn't the right card for anybody.

I'm a member of several Frecuent Flyer Forums and Delta Skymiles is know for needing an unreasonable amount of miles for Travel Award.

Most Post make fun of the double miles Amex becuase it's like you need double miles from what you needed before to get awar travel. Not one thread many about how ridicolous and worthless skymiles are because you need SO MANY for award flights.

I agree, I have SouthWest, One Pass, United and AA miles. The amount needed for travel is allot less than what you need for Delta Skymiles. It's like you need at LEAST 50% more miles than all other FF programs:

Example

Delta

Atlanta (HUB) - Chicago = 37,000 miles In March flying on the weekdays

Atlanta (NON HUB)-ChicagoAtlanta= 25,000 miles Coach 45,000 First Class Same Dates!!!!!

You SEE why the Double miles are worth less you need %50 more miles to fly for free on Skymiles. For 8,000 more miles you can fly first class on AA.

Lets not forget Atlanta is Delta's HUB!!!!!!!!!!!!
