Discover - re-opened my account!

So I closed my Discover More card a couple of weeks back because of the low $2000 CL...

Last night, I get a call from Discover asking again why I closed my account and if there was anything she could do to retain my business. I told her why I had closed my account and that while I liked their service, I had other cards with $20k plus CL's and I just did not need Discover any longer nor did I want to have to make multiple payments so I would not go over my CL. I was very nice to her and told her the truth.

She made me this offer:

1. Re-open my account and PC to their new IT card.

2. New $5000 CL with a soft pull.

3. 0 % balance transfer for 18 months (5% BT Fee), I will not do this.

So, I let her re-open my account. It was all super easy and while $5k is on the low side, at least it is a step in the right direction.

I am looking forward to the new IT card to arrive.

That's awesome! Congrats! I know that it is still low by your standards, but $5K is actually decent for Discover. I received my IT card yesterday, and it's a sweet looking card. I've received three auto cli's totaling $1100 in less than a year. While that's still my lowest cl, I will stick with them for a while...

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it. I just about fell out of my chair when she made that offer. But, I am happy keeping them in the profile for now.

Anxious to get the IT card, I think it will be here tomorrow. Then I guess I will just have to use it for something!

Thanks - I was totally shocked when they called me.

Based on an earlier conversation you and I were having, it would have been nice to get $10k out of them... Right now I will settle for $5k and will see where this goes over the next year.

That's very surprising. Discover actually wants you business back.

Give it a year i'm sure they can double the CL. Plus a SP for $5K is not bad at all.

Hi Ray congrats on the win over Discovery. Also I'm interested in knowing what is your current credit score and income. I doubt Discover would be chasing you like that with a low sub-700 credit score and a job working at Walmart. I'm thinking you are above 750 with income over 75k?
