quick question?

ive had my amex green for a month now and it has taken over my debit card. i like using it instead of my other cards but ive decided that the gold PR would be better for me because of the rewards. i also would like to have the zync just to have it(whats $25 a year). so my question is should i apply for the gold PR and is it possible to downgrade the green to zync or i have to wait a year to upgrade or downgrade my green?? in that case should i cancel my green and apply for both pr gold and zync? anyone in here has had the green and has upgraded to the gold and liked it better than the green? thanks

I don't have direct experience, but the Green can be PC'd either way: down to Zync, or up to Gold / Gold PR, or probably even the Plat.

I don't think you have to wait a year either, might be able to do it now, but someone will be able to answer that portion of the question easily.

Upgrading your Green would require a 12 month wait, due to some new law, where the issuer can't raise your annual fee for the first 12 months. You could go ahead and put in a new app for the PR Gold though then you should be able to downgrade the Green to the Zync.

Ah silly me, for some reason I thought it was no annual fee to AF, rather than a change in AF in the first year. My bad.

Great thanks guys. I applied for the pr gold yesterday and was approved . Im gonna call amex and downgrade my green to zync. But i kinda wanna keep the green too cuz i like the way it looks and im kinda of a collector i guess.... Too bad i cant have the 3

That is a lot of AFs just for the look. I kind of like the look of Zync over the Green better.

@crashem i know thats why im not keeping the green. Do they let you keep the old card when you downgrade?? Ive never seen a zync in person so i wouldnt know but by the way people talk about it in here makes me want it(thanks for the peer pressure!!).
Funny story: i was buying water at S&S and had my green in my hand and this older guy saw my card and pulled out his gold and just looked at me and gave the thumbs up lol

Don't see the point of GoldPR and Zync. IMO, a charge and credit card are a better combination.

My suggestion, call and upgrade Green to Gold PR now. Wait a bit and then, apply for one of the credit cards.

your right there is no point of GOLDPR and Zync its just that i want those two...and i already have a bce from amex.

The rewards mechanics are different on the Zync and the Gold; if you're just trying to rack up MR points (for whatever reason) then having the Zync linked to your Gold is a straight rewards accelerator for whatever packs you've picked up... sometimes as much as 3x or higher which easily overcomes the extra AF on top of the Gold PR assuming your spend is sufficient.

I'm in the group of those who do not concern themselves with AFs. Those that do; however, are just fine in avoiding the cards that do.

That being said, you want the 3, get the 3. I would even nudge you to go for the Platinum, if you fly frequently

no only keeping 2. i do want the platinum though but not for flying because i dont fly at all but because of the concierge 24/7 services...i might try it in a year after having the goldpr

I could see a zync and pr gold combine being beneficial for frequent travlers... zync could continue to take care of the small recurring bills like cell phone and direct Tv; where pr gold could be used to pick up the rental cars and plane ticks.

If my job increases the amount of travel that I'm required to take ive thought about either picking up pr gold or upgrading my nfcu card to the flagship rewards card. Or do both.

Jsickz... if you upgrade your nfcu card to the flagship you can have visa signature concierge withouth the hefty AF that amex charges. Just a thought. With amex you pay a lot more because of the airport lounge access

+1 Any Visa Signature has a concierge service, some don't even have annual fees, like the Chase Sapphire. No need for a platinum Amex just for that.
