I know some people were able to change their card type with Chase. I dont know all the details. You might want to use the search button on the top of this page and see if you can locate it.

DW switched from regular chase card to Freedom card. She kept the history but did get a new card number. This was a "Signature" card, that might be why the card number was changed. And I asked for the signature card specifically. I am an idiot.

I had a United Frequent Flyer card that went through several banks and was eventually owned by Chase. I told Chase I wanted a cashback card with no AF. They gave me Chase Freedom Signature. (I had no idea I even had a Signature card until posters here starting grumbling about it.) I have a new account number but I have the old history from the prior card.

Chase just wrote me a long convoluted letter, explaining that my (Signature) card does not have a credit limit but it has an "access limit." So I can exceed this limit without a penalty fee, but "the credit bureaus may not report your access line, which will make the account appear to be an open line of credit versus a revolving credit card." I love how they blame it on the CRAs.

I know how the work-around works, but I can't stomach charging up to $25,000. As if.

They offered me an increase in access limit. Of course that does nothing to deal with the original problem. I am considering changing the card to a non-Signature, revolving card. But I fear something else will go horribly wrong...

That's depressing, but not surprising, news. Once again, the solution to the reporting dilemma appears to be to max out the account, or to change to a non-Signature card. I was looking at the Chase Freedom product lineup earlier, and I noticed that they added another card, Chase Freedom Plus, that offers the choice of points, cash, and now miles. This card has no AF, but there is a $30 "Program Fee." You can also get a non-Signature version of this card.

Message Edited by psychic on 01-28-2008 01:19 PM

Chase Freedom Plus ... this card is good for people who travel a lot. Not for me.

By the way, I call Chase back and verified information regards to the switching the program. I got right CSR this time, he knew what he is doing. Not only for that, he reminded me to not waste my points I have earned. I have 443 points at this moment and he told me to redeem it for $5 Mrs. Field Gift Card before switch over. I need to charge $57 to reach 500 points to redeem.

I believe I was speaking with CSR in out side US all this time, and I spoke with US side CSR this time. I will not say they (out side us CSR) are not good, but I prefer to speak with CSR within US from now on.

A lot of times the US-based reps have more flexibility and more knowledge. The overseas reps are often not allowed to do very much beyond the really straight-forward stuff.
