My gf has boa checking account so we are going to see if she can get a cc thru them. First we are going to talk to customer service st branch. What should we ask? Thanks

What kind of card are you looking for? Do you both plan on being on the CC? What are your FICO scores if you happen to know them? Any negatives in her and your credit reports?

Cough. Please don't randomly apply for cards unless you think you have good chance to get. As such can you tell us about her credit profile and score.

I applied for my BoA card at the branch, but only because I couldn't put an APO address in the online application. Even at the branch, however, they made me use a stateside address since they won't mail to APO. Then the branch rep approved me for the wrong card and I had to do a product change (over the phone while sitting in front of the branch rep at her desk). If I had to do it again, I would surely just do it online and give a stateside address.

If she is a student, I would suggest to go for one of their student cards (typically easier to get). If not, depending on her accounts with BOA, there is the basic BankAmericard or their cash back card. A branch manager could look at her account status and give a general idea on which card she might be able to apply for. She may even have to do a secured card. Either way, just ask to speak to someone about opening up a credit card and someone should be able to assist you. She could also apply online if she has online banking. But, speaking to someone in person could probably point her in the right direction.

Based on a previous thread, she has nothing what-so-ever on her credit report.

She keeps getting letters thru mail saying you have been pre approved for a,student cc

But is she a student? She will need to provide some form of edvidence (school information) she is a student somewhere to get the card. If she is, and she has been pre-approved, I would say that is a good place to start.

@jd5189 im not sure about that. I applied for their student plat in 09 when i was 18 and didnt need to show anything saying i was a student.

The online application for the student card asks for a plethora of student information. So, it looks like student verification is necessary in this case.

Lol i dont know but i still have the card. And when my card expired earlier this year they called me and ask for all my info again to send me new card. They asked me if i was still a student, i said no but they sent me a new card anyways.

I thought the same thing j_casteel. But, like I mentioned previously, that was in 2009. The CARD act has changed much in terms of students and credit cards. But, back to the OP's issue, my guess is since your gf's credit report has nothing in it, she is probably not a student unless she paid for her education in all cash. Which is do-able, and if she did, I imagine she has a bank account somewhere that would net her a fairly decent card . Just talk with a branch manager (or someone who offers credit cards) at the BoA branch and let us know how things go!

I just came back from boa. The lady right away offered her 1,2,3 credit card. I thought it was fishy especially when she doesn't have a credit history. I told her she doesn't gave a credit history. I asked her about student cc she totally ignored my question. What are chances she gets accepted for 1,2,3. I told her she should get student one

Did they take a chance and look at her account? Or did she just randomly throw the 1,2,3 card in the works without taking the time to look over her account history. I believe the 1,2,3 is their cash rewards card. It is rated for people with Fair to Excellent credit. Since she has an established account, my guess is she might have a chance of approval and that is why the lady recommended it.

I still havn't seen you say whether or not she is an actual student or not. I tried app'ing Discover for my wife who had no credit history other than being an AU on my amex cards with Discover. I filled out the pre-approval and it said "Congrats you're pre-approved for the following: Discover More" I app'd and she got declined. Maybe the Discover Student is a little more lenient, but I could not imagine it being much more lenient.

Then she would qualify for a student card if she has income. Being her lack of history, I would recommend the student card she has been getting pre-approvals for. The 1-2-3 is a cash rewards card (which is nice to get cash back) but the underwriting criteria might be a bit more stringent. She can do the student application online through BoA's website.
