GE Upgrades

I apologize if this is answered elsewhere, I searched for the answer and found bits and pieces but possibly not a complete list.

I was curious which GE store cards offer upgrades?

I know the following, based on reading information on this site:

Walmart can upgrade to Walmart Discover

Banana Republic can upgrade to Banana Republic Visa

Old Navy can upgrade to Old Navy Visa

Are there any other cards that are backed by GE which can upgrade in this manner?

And finally, does anyone know what MAY be the general criteria required for these upgrades (ie. CL and time with account in good standing, etc.)?

I know Dillards Upgrades to AMEX

and Chevron Upgrades to Visa

I think all the store CARDS will upgrade to either a visa/amex/discover/mastercard, the only things that wouldn't apply to this rule would be financing offers for like furniture or something which doesn't involve a card but simply deferred payments.

That is my guess at least

Many GE cards do not upgrade ever: Belk, Rooms to Go, kirklands, ikea, Linens and Things, Lord and Taylor and many more I'm sure.

I don't think any of those stores offer Visa/MC/Amex/Discover versions of their cards at all. Only stores in that list I've even heard of are Rooms to go and Ikea xD

JCP used to offer a JCP Rewards MasterCard but no longer. So that card also doesn't upgrade into anything.

Lowes used to offer a Visa but no longer. It doesn't upgrade. There is an AMEX Lowes but not through GE it's actually through AMEX for businesses only.

How do you upgrade the Dillard's store card? I've had that card for a decade and have never been offered an upgrade...I could have sworn a CSR told me you can't upgrade? Any success stories?

Do you think you can be declined for a Discover card but have your Walmart card upgraded to the Discover version?

I think so... I have. $5k Wmt Discvr, but I'm almost certain if I applied for a real Discvr, my reason for denial would be:
-paid or unpaid CO in the past :-/

At least, that's what it was when I applied spring of 2011. :-/

GE has more lax uw'ing standards than Discover.

Those CSR's have no idea what they are talking about... They told me they didn't offer the BR Visa, then low and behold... I got an offer online to upgrade. Lying b******s. Hahaha!

Yes its possible, you are confusing network with the bank. Even after the walmart card is upgraded to discover version its still backed by GE Money Bank, the fact that its a discover card is just the network used to process transactions.

Any idea what the general requirements are to upgrade? Particularly interested in the requirements for the Walmart Discover. I've seen mention that a $2000 CL is a threshold, but not sure if that's true, and I'm also not sure how long you have to have the card (at least a year?). Any insight is appreciated!

Time and good payment history and use, if you don't get the Discover version at the start the ability to upgrade usually comes around after 18 months to 2 years but sometimes it takes longer, doesn't seem to be score dependent I have seen people getting offers with 680 FICOs and others having a 799 FICO. YMMV
