They approved me the day i opened my college combo so it is definitely a possibility. The only thing i had on my reports was quite a few inqs and federal student loan accounts, no cards reporting yet. Idk if they do recons though.

I know Wells Fargo cards aren't the best, but I have been banking there for seven years and thought they might give me a high limit card. I was correct! I was approved for a $3,500 limit. I am so excited to finally have a card with a limit above $500.

I wish I had found these forums years ago. They have literally changed my life.

Congratulations! I just got approved last month, as well, so I guess this makes us WF family.

Like you, I wanted the card because I bank there.
Congrats señor.

I am a big fan of talking to any bank you have a long relationship with for a credit card. There's nothing but goodness in leveraging that, and not every card can be top calibre. Debatably they shouldn't anyway, and WF cards are more than acceptable for anyone's portfolio.

Especially when any national bank gets you across the $1000 line, 3500 is a nice limit as it's a short walk to signature-level cards from that if you so desire.

Congrats!!!!! I used the same strategy to get my wife her first CC card. No one else would approve her for a card because she didn't have any other credit history other than being an AU on my amex account for a couple years. I really did not want to do a secured card and figured they would be a good bet because she held accounts with them for over 10 years. They approved her instantly for 1.5k... so I guess I cannot complain about them

I do think that length of relationship was a major factor. I've been with WF since they bought out Wachovia, and before that they were SouthTrust, and before that they were First National Bank of Lee County. So, I've had my accounts with them -- as one entity or another -- since the mid 90s. I'd like to think that a loooooong, and successful, banking relationship counts for something.

Congrats! I have been with WF for a year now. I opened a $500 secured card over a month ago, but before that was denied for an auto refinance and a personal loan so I am too scared to try for anything else again. I will just wait about 6-8 months and possibly consider apping again.

Which credit report did they pull? I was with Wachovia and stayed on when Wells Fargo bought them out. They send me offers for credit cards all the time but I'm hesitant to apply since when I applied years and years ago I wasn't approved. Obviously my credit score/income aren't what they are today....but I know typically they're harder to get approved with.

I see the original poster said they got a decent limit....was $500 your highest before?

Congrats!

I will always be grateful to Wells Fargo. My credit went into the toilet after I lost my job in 2009, and for a couple years the only CC I had was my Discover, which had its CL reduced to $500. But I'd had a checking account with Wells Fargo and its predecessors since 1996, and it had always been in good standing. So, after a few months at my new job, Wells must have noticed the fat direct deposit coming in regularly, because one day, as I logged into my online account, I was greeted with a pre-approved invitation to apply for a Visa. So, I applied, and despite my low-600s credit score, I was instantly approved for a $3,000 CL. I was floored! It was a great feeling, and it was the inspiration I needed to start taking an active interest in managing my credit.
