How intrusive is the AMEX sync program. You can link to Facebook, foursquare and twitter. (I don't have 4SQ or Twitter). Is it worth getting these for specials?

I like it. They don't bother me. I used it before they changed the name to get the $5 credit from a Shell gas purchase. Before I even got back into my car, I already had an email saying thank you for the purchase and that I would see the statement credit soon.

On Facebook, they just scrape all your Likes from the Pages on your profile and use them to recommend offers when you visit Sync. I haven't received any other communications from them outside of when I am actually using the app.

I have the FB application and love it. You can set the permissions on it in FB to only show your activity to yourself and not anyone else. I have not seen any intrusionary activity from it. Now foursquare I have no idea about....I avoid that one like the plague.

Agreed. I've run from using 4SQ in past. It would have to really offer me something for me to use that app

I've found the Foursquare Sync to be the most useful variant.

You can use the Specials tab of the Explore view in Foursquare and it will show you check-in specials in the area around you. In my area, I get several of these that have the Amex logo, with deals tending to range from "Spend $20, get a $5 statement credit" to "Spend $50, get $10/$15 statement credit". When you select the deal it "loads it to your card" (why can't they just say "updates our database"?) and then you just have to pay with your Amex to close the loop.

Pretty good deals, plus I'm also still getting the MR points on my spend.

So basically, it enables me to use Foursquare as a deal-hunting version of Yelp.

My Twitter is private, so I haven't tried that one, but I've been impressed with how unintrusive their integration with both Facebook and Foursquare has been. It's not annoying pop-ups and email blasts encouraging you DON'T MISS THIZZ DEALLLLL....the service is pretty passive, and relies on you to say "Hey, I'm looking for an Amex deal, what have you got for me?"

Used it for the first time today via Twitter for the MCD offer. Worked like a charm.

Only thing i do not like is my twitter cannot be private for it to work on twitter. Might just take it off private when i want to take advantage of an offer only.

I have to second the 4SQ deals, they're usually post as fast as the actual charges do. I haven't used FB as much, but it's also pretty low key and opt-in (i.e. have to look for the deals).
